"Sad what happened here. I wish they could find all of the men and give them proper burials!!! They did an excellent job cleaning up the weeds at this site!!!"
"Listening to a podcast about the darker aspects of the event. I wasn’t familiar with it at all. Fascinating and sad. If interested, look in your podcasts. It’s on Astonishing Legends, aired 11/26/22. Check it out."
"This is a mass grave Memorial site for those Irish immigrant railroad workers in the late 1800s that died of malaria while constructing why constructing an Excavating this Rocky Gorge across the South Ridge Malvern of the Great Valley it is not very accessible and therefore little people get to see it unless you find a way through someone's backyard in the neighborhood at the end of North Sugartown Road and then go west about 50 yards on the south side of the tracks interesting to note that this was the highest pass on a mountain that they had to cut through between Philadelphia and Harrisburg"
"The remains of the 57 Irish railway workers are part of the largest massacres in North American history. There was a 100% casualty rate of Irish laborers who sailed to America in 1832. Investigators believe the men were murdered by the East Whiteland Horse Company. Many of the men were savagely beaten and their corpses were burned."
"I first came upon this monument while walking on the railroad tracks in 1981. I did not know the history then. I am glad there has been so much work done to memorialize the poor creatures who died here."
