Reviews of Large Scale Systems Museum
"This, to my mind is the premier museum of mainframe, mini and micro computers. Entry is free but you will need to book tours in advance. To give you some idea of how good this museum is, I take a 5000 mile trip 4 times a year to visit it. Highly, highly recommended if you are at all interested in the subject matter."
"Amazing collection of old computer hardware. Much of it works but due to the weather we didn't have any of it turned off save for a few minutes. The guys are very knowledgeable and friendly. I'd definitely like to visit again to get the full experience, but even without it was still unquestionably worth the time."
"Briefly stopped here after dinner and was completely overwhelmed with nostalgia and memories of when technology was still fun. Impressed by the skills and intelligence of the volunteers. They were not actually open when we stopped, but they let us in anyways. Can't wait to stop by again."
"This place is INCREDIBLE! I enjoyed my visit here more than well-known "competitors" like the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA. I love the museum's emphasis on running hardware, community education, and cool stories about how the computers were acquired. Schedule your visit in advance! Let them know how long you have for the visit. The volunteers are a wealth of information and the tour can be as detailed as you like. We got a super detailed 3 hour tour and I loved every minute of it."
"If you're in the Pittsburgh area, and at all interested in how computing got to where it is today, make the time to visit. They pride themselves on actually getting the old iron running and usable. No simulations here. They run the actual hardware and the actual software. Be sure to call ahead so you can get the full dope from the guys who make it work."
