Middleton Gardens
About the Business
Middleton Gardens, located at 4300 Ashley River Road in Charleston, South Carolina, is a historic park that has stood the test of time, surviving wars, economic changes, and natural disasters. Originally granted in 1675, this National Historic Landmark tells the stories of the Middleton family, as well as the enslaved Africans and African Americans who lived and worked on the property.
The beautifully manicured gardens have been a popular destination for visitors for over 250 years. Explore the vast garden rooms, interact with heritage breed livestock in the Stableyards, and witness live demonstrations by skilled artisans such as blacksmiths and potters. Outdoor tours provide insight into the lives of those who helped build and maintain this iconic American landmark.
Unfortunately, the Garden Stroll and Wine Tasting event scheduled for April 3 has been canceled, but the beauty and history of Middleton Gardens are always worth a visit. Come and experience a microcosm of United States history at this special place along the Ashley River.

Reviews
"My only regret is that we missed the spring bloom. Can't imagine what this place looks like in full bloom. This is a restored garden on an old plantation so if you're sensitive to that I recommend you stay home. But if you're interested in history, gardens a trip out here is a must. The remaining structure is filled with "original" antiques owned by the Middleton family. The docents were amazing, full of knowledge about the family and the operation of the property at the time. Great restaurant and gift shop. We planned to stay for 2 hours and were there for 4.5!"
"very nice place to share with family and nature. It has bathrooms. Plant sales. A museum."
"Nice weather to walk around. Lunch was fantastic."
"The gardens at Middleton Place are beautiful even in December. I can only imagine how gorgeous they are in the spring! If you enjoy nature and beauty you would enjoy visiting. I will review the other areas of Middleton place separately."
"Garden was nice, I would not recommend topay for the house tour, note from Abe Lincoln on site, otherwise saw a lot of other historic sites with better and more interesting things for either free or less money that were all guided tours too (this one is here you go)"
