"Visited on President’s Day so admission was waived. Even in the rain, there was a lot of activity. We spotted endless amounts of swan, duck, etc. as well as a handful of deer and some hawks. Slower route, 15-20mph, but super courteous visitors. I could see it being very crowded in nicer weather. Would recommend and would return."
"What’s lovely about this place is the wildlife is active and abundant (now granted it may not be evident from photos, but after awhile I just want experience vs shoot pics) with you able to take a long loop in the car around a portion of the refuge. The gravel road is wide enough you can easily go around other stopped cars- so you can go through at your own pace. There are cranes, nutria, ducks, eagles etc. This is really a place to do birding! Ridgefield has grown sooo much since I lived and visited 30yrs ago. Still a quiet town proper and the refuge is a gem!"
"We absolutely love this NWR loop road with trails, wide turn-outs, and interesting wildlife. Never ceases to amaze us with unique birding plus mammal surprises. Certainly recommend taking your time and listening, too. So much to see if we slow down and bring it all in."
"This is just a giant loop that your drive through. It is pretty quiet, outside of some occasional shooting that you can hear from hunters that are in a different but not so far away area. It is a great place for bird watching. I have see many types of birds and large cranes here. In addition, I have had the pleasure of seeing quite a few sweet deer. You are not allowed to get out of your vehicle here. It takes less than an hour to get through the loop."
