Reviews of Adapt Behavioral Health Day
"I completed adapt 7 years ago. It was a pleasant experience that taught me a lot and helped me on the road to recovery. A month ago I completed it again. This time however my experience was far from the same. The new staff really doesn't know what they are doing. It feels like this place is just taking money from your insurance company. This place serves no other purpose other than helping a handful of people keep a job that they don't do well. I have dedicated my time to warn others and not have them go through the same awful experience I did."
"Adapt turned my life around. Its intense, but you learn so much from different perspectives, the environment is so supportive, and they give you access to a dietician, grief counselor, psychiatrist, and Occupational Therapist. They also offer individual counseling. Adapt gave me the hope I've never had about my mental health."
"I would like to give feedback about my time at ADAPT. I did 8 full days and 2 short days within about a 2 week period. When you first go, you do an orientation of sorts and fill out paperwork, do an intake interview, get a tour, etc. That takes up a bit of time so on the first day you wont be in classes/group session in the morning. Each day when you get there you sign in, fill out a pain assessment sheet and can ask for Tylenol, you can also order lunch if you want some thing from the Safeway deli (they have forms to fill out), and you can also fill out a form to talk to the psychologist. GOAL PLANNING GROUP 8:45-9:35AM each day is a Goal Planning group. There usually some kind of ice-breaker or get-to-know-you question. You fill out a sheet of paper that asks about you mood on a scale 1-10. It also asks when your graduation day is. It also has a spot to put down who will be prescribing you medicine when you leave and who will be your counselor or therapist when you leave. Then it asks for your "Recovery Vision" (your hopes and dreams for your life). Then it asks you to identify a problem or barrier that you want to work on that day. You set a goal and you write down steps you can take towards your goal and then it has room to say which of the classes you don't want to be pulled out of if they end up pulling you out for any reason (usually visits with the psychologist, social workers, occupational therapist, nurses, etc). During this time the participants also get to help choose what "classes" or "groups" will be done that day. There's 4 spots available for classes each full day (short days usually have 3 classes). Some times they already have some of spots filled up with pre-planned classes/groups. They try to teach some of the same things each week or every other week (like medication, Omsbudsman, grief & loss, addiction 101, support group, etc). But usually the participants get to democratically decide between 2-4 classes each day. During the morning goals session you learn which of the facilitators will be teach which time slots and then you, as a group, can choose from a list of classes that facilitator teaches. Some facilitators teach there often and have a long list of classes to choose from. Some don't teach there as often or just have shorter lists of classes to choose from. And they don't like repeating certain classes more than once every 2 weeks. Also during this time, there usually a participant who volunteers to be a peer greeter (basically the peer greeter is nice to new people and offers to sit with them on lunch or breaks, etc). They do have a sheet of paper that explains the peer greeter role (like you aren't a therapist so don't feel like you have to solve someone problems, etc). And during this time the peer greeter chooses a word of the day from a list of words they have. This is a good time because you get to hear from others and pick what to do that day. CLASSES After that goal planning group there is a long break because the staff takes all the sheets and what classes were chosen and they have a meeting to help plan out the day, etc. There's usually classes from 10:10-11am, 11:10am-12pm, then lunch from 12-1p (on short days the lunch is only half an hour), then classes from 1-1:50p and 2-2:50p. After each class you write down a little feedback on a review sheet. GOAL REVIEW GROUP Then at 2:50-3:20 there's a chance to review the day. Again, each participant fills out a form that asks how they are different than they were in the morning. It asks how physically safe you were able to keep yourself and it asks your mood from 1-10. They do have a chart that helps you choose your mood score. Then the form asks how your efforts got you closer to your goals. The form also asks what problem(s) need more of your attention. It also asks what skills or information did you learn that is part of your treatment plant objectives. It also asks about recovery plans for the evening or weekend. Again, this is nice because you get to hear from others, etc."
