"Actual house wasn’t open to public. There was a good size parking spot and the property seemed properly maintained. Walked around looked in windows and read the signage. Quiet location."
"My husband and I have a bucket list to visit all the president's homes so while we were vacationing in Vermont we decided to check out Chester Arthur's birthplace. I have to warn you that it is definitely off the beaten path. You take dirt and gravel roads to get here. It is very remote and you don't get any cell service, so make sure that you have your GPS directions before getting here. The sight is tiny but is well maintained. There is an information plaque as well as a monument in addition to the tiny house. Unfortunately due to COVID the site wasn't open so we couldn't go inside the house but it really didn't look like there was much to see anyways. We at least got a picture there and can check it off our list."
"Nice to see an historic place, but there isnt much here but the building and its not the original...just a replica. Not open until July, but i was able to walk around and see it. Even though its just a place, pretty cool to think he walked in that area and i could have been looking and stepping where he once did. Kinda cool. :)"
"The docent was very knowledgeable about this little known president. Parallels can be drawn between other more recent assassinations, conpiracies, criticism of military and White House expenditures, political primary strategies, his defense of a Rosa Parks-like figure, letter campaigns, etc. Much more interesting than I expected."
"If you are a fan of little known history and enjoy a nice drive in the woods, this is place for you. This is Chester's 2nd home (he was born in Fairfield, VT or perhaps Canada!). The small (3 rooms) house that contains a seasonally opened museum with a few exhibits and a volunteer staff. The church where his father's was minister is close by."
