Greer Heritage Museum

"My mom from Missouri and family friend from Alaska were in town this week so we checked out this museum I drive by every day. It was very interesting. It's pretty cramped but there is a lot to read if you take the time. There's a lot of good history in there and I really loved the stuff about the old mills. I run through Berry Mill rd and 14 every day and it was neat to see information about those mills and how they looked then versus now. Also all the information about the workers at all the mills. They're offering ghost tours that we really want to do but not sure we'll get a chance this year."

"This is a great little free museum in beautiful downtown Greer. The volunteer staff could not have been more friendly and knowledgeable. They have some really great exhibits here. It's impossible to come away from this place without knowing a lot more about the history of Greer. I definitely recommend you visit!"

"The Greer Heritage Museum staff has done a fantastic job of preserving the old Greer Post office, while also giving it a great new purpose in recording the town's history. The building itself is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is operated solely by volunteers. On the day I quickly stopped by, both volunteers were extremely friendly and informative. Great people! Built in 1935, the landmark served as Greer's post office until 1964 at which time it became the city hall until 2008. What I found most interesting was the stone mortar with its historical marker sitting in front of the museum. Some researchers believe the boulder could date back to the 1500's and was most likely used to grind up cornmeal and flours by the Cherokee Indians. If so, that would make it one of the oldest artifacts ever discovered in Greenville. Some local historians believe this could mean Cherokees used the area for more than just hunting grounds and maybe even had a permanent village in the area."

"Very small but nice display of history here in this museum. They offer many displays within the different eras from medical to farming, schooling and sports, WW1-2 and clothing from that time, examples from soldiers to womenswear. They also offer a small theater for learning with a film that runs. If you have any ancestors from this town and are looking for old photos if they were on a sports team at the high school definitely go inside and have a look!"
