Reviews of Sharpe Hill Vineyard
"A beautiful ride into this truly colonial Connecticut vibe. Nestled in Pomfret, CT, the tasting room and sitting area are tastefully decorated with vintage pieces reflecting its history. The menu offers a wine for all pallets. I selected a glass of Fluer Rouge a fruit forward red. A wonderful wine to sip on a chilly Sunday afternoon. The “monkey room” is reminiscent of the Hemingway era. Fun and whimsical . Their restroom boasts a variety of antiques and time pieces that is a must see. Only downside is the mother (owner) daughter (manager) dynamic. A bit abrasive then almost amusing but definitely not alway professional. Hope they work out the kinks to keep customers returning to what truly is a Connecticut treasure."
"What a sad experience we had. Though it was on fathers day last year, the time we had we couldnt forget. The building and location were beautiful, the wine tasty but i warn thee, there was an older lady working there (i think the mother) who kept pestering my family as well as other people around us about their closing time(hours in advance), how many glasses and how much work she had to do. She was really annoying and came close to ruining our whole time there. The daughter, i believe, kept shooing her off but she kept returning! Goodluck, we wont be coming back!"
"Owners try WAY TOO HARD to be welcoming that they are unwelcoming. I was all but groped when we arrived. It was raining pretty hard. I had a water bottle and she told me to go back out and put in my car. I told her to hold it behind the counter if it’s an issue (not a problem at all). Then she is telling my husband to give her his vest. He wanted to wear it, not wanting to pick a fight he was taking it off for her and she says… wait I’ll get paper towels and dry you off and told him to turn this way and that. I already had my coat off but she told me to do the same with my purse. Have you ever been dabbed off when you went somewhere? I didn’t think so. The mother is telling us what to do and how to do it. Her daughter and her talk over each other. Although trying to be gracious hosts they come over so frequently that my husband and I packed up our bottle to go because it wasn’t a great atmosphere for a date day. I might as well have brought my daughter. Mother knows best here. Don’t bother trying to tell her otherwise or you’ll be in a pissing match. Each time I come here I wonder why I go back though this was such a mess it was almost comical. Upon leaving I recorked the bottle myself to get out of there quicker and hopefully avoid them (we already had paid) It is going in my trunk anyway. The mother won’t let me go because it is “against the law to not have the bottle sealed” before exiting the premises. She needs to take a look at the law in the state. I asked for my water bottle and didn’t address the sealing thing. My husband said to just let her do it. She comes out told me I made her flustered. My husband hands her the bottle and she says what do you want me to do? Would you like me to seal it? What the heck? I’ll say she needs medical care or the family is off their rocker but it was an experience and something to talk about but I think that was the last time for me. Too inconsistent, too chaotic and not worth the drive."
"Worst experience ever. Wines were good, but the owner belittled us the whole time we were there. She came over 3 times to ask us how many wines we had left to drink. Lecturing us on what time they closed even though the daughter had welcomed us in. When we asked her to stop harassing us, she said she wasn't because she was the owner. She then lectured us on being rude. The whole time, her daughter is ignoring her and pouring us wine. We would have bought several bottles but left instead. Do not recommend you visit here, it was a very stressful experience."
"Really love the look, feel, atmosphere and even smell of this place. You can't have more country charm than this place. Has a bunch of cool little knickknacks placed around tastefully. There is a little sitting room inside that has Hemingway feels to it. There is an outdoor patio with metal garden chairs and tables. The porch has incorporated a few trees in the middle and a large stone rock. There is also a little grassy area where you can enjoy their wines. You can take a little walk down the driveway along the stone fences and get pretty view across the road of a wooded area and old barn. There are plenty of flower and very peaceful feel to the whole place. My wife got the 13 tasting set. She is a wino and sells wine herself and was very impressed with the wines. He rated most of pretty high. Not a dessert wine fan, but liked she enjoyed theirs. Kurt was our server and was super knowledgeable, witty and attentive. Nestled in the county side of Pomfert CT. This is well worth the drive to enjoy a few hours away from the world sipping on some wine."
