Reviews of Met Spires
"First off we absolutely loved living in Tacoma - the people, THE FOOD, places to go, etc. However as a decent human and as a female I cannot recommend living in this complex if you are single or with children/pets. 1. There is absolutely no security - the cameras don’t work, people let randoms in the front door, no garage security, cars are smashed / broken in to. The gym is dangerous (if it’s even open). The lights turn off while you are inside (which they refuse to fix) and has a single point of entry with the machines facing the opposite direction so you can’t see who is coming in or out. 2. Management has changed 3-4 times over the course of my 2 years here. They do not take complaints seriously. There is always an excuse and they always promise things i.e we will fix the gym, cameras, we are going to hire better security, we will have an area for dogs. Management sends poorly written emails and deals with building emergencies late (homeless people breaking in and locking the main entrance door during fire alarms). 3. If you are a pet owner there is NO PLACE FOR YOUR DOG TO POTTY. You can use the rocks out front but it constantly smells since no one picks up after their dog. 4. I had to call CPS and the police (who do not show up in this area) on my upstairs neighbors because of the abuse we had to listen to with a female and baby upstairs (first year here). 5. When we first moved in the neighbors would not stop smoking above us. 6. Fire alarm always goes off for “tests” or because the pipes constantly burst in the garage. Garage is always flooded. 7. Hallways always smell too due to the “trash service” which is a waste of money that you can’t opt out of. Most of the time when it’s needed they don’t pick up i.e. the weekend so everyone leaves their trash around the complex and backs up the shoot to the main level or higher. 8. Nickel and dime you on everything but you always need to check your bill since they over charge you on the WiFi, pest control, or common area lighting. Check your move out bill they try to overcharge you + extra service fee. $500 refundable deposit is not actually refundable it goes to your close out bill. 9. Apartment was not actually cleaned or repaired before we moved in. 10. Amenities - gym, pool, roof, theater, etc. is always broken or closed. Nothing is ever kept clean or nice. The only good things about this complex is the walk ability to food and the maintenance crew. If you do move here join the Facebook group if you want actual updates on anything."
"I would recommend to anyone looking to rent here to look elsewhere. You can find so much better for the cost you’d be charge here along with the issues living here comes with that cause undue stress on renters. To be completely honest, due to ongoing issues even after just about 4 months of living here, it would take a lot to convince me to renew my lease come 12 months. Ongoing double charges in billing that I have had to reach out for them to fix every month for the last few months now. Management has said a couple times it’s been fixed for future billing cycles so it won’t happen again but it hasn’t been. Double charge is still coming up. Maintenance issue that recently left me without a properly working refrigerator for 2.5 weeks and a complete loss of all the groceries I had due to the length of time it took just to get a replacement unit out here. Additionally, so much debris was left after the replacement was brought in, items/small furniture that was moved were not returned to its original spot after, and a mug that was on the counter which was broken in the process of replacement of the refrigerator was left for me to discover after they left and didn’t tell me about it. I’ve also had a morning where I found a transient sleeping in the trash chute room of my floor… Just overall not happy and would not recommend anyone living here. You can do so much better."
"1) The apartments are prone to mold! 2) Apartments are too expensive for what they offer (crime riddled environment and cars getting broken into every week on the street) 3) (FALSE) fire alarm goes off almost every week at this point - super annoying to uproot myself every time it goes off in the middle of the day. 4) Management simply does not care about upkeep. It's so obvious. The gym, the only amenity most people care about, is also closed indefinitely now. I'll be surprised if it's open again before 2025. 5) I've talked to several people here about stolen packages. Don't know if the property management team can do anything about it but please know that if you move here, you're at a huge risk of your property being stolen and nothing being done about it. 6) Drug addicts screaming outside during summer nights and there's no air conditioning in the units (thanks, Washington) so you need to have the windows open to not be overheated but then you also hear everything going on on the streets. Can't sleep well during summer at all. 7) Pretty cheap appliances but they work so it's not a gigantic deal. I'll update if I can think of anything else. All in all, we're excited to move out of the building when our lease is up. I expect many other residents are ready to move on, too. Please do better, Met Spires. If you're not willing or unable to provide a nice environment for what you charge monthly, then just close the building down until you can. They charge the same amount each month even with the dwindling amenities. Make it make sense. Ugh. So disappointing."
"1st this place use to be fantastic, with great people working here, along with great residents. Now they hired this arrogant male manager, with the communication skills of a rock. That is if he is even on site. He is never here on time or available. Have an issue too bad they don't care. It is the worst possible outcome. A manager who believes they are superior to other people, who clearly doesn't care about the people that live or work here. The amenities are either closed or not available, who knows they don't tell you anything. Crime is up, homeless people sneaking in and living here?! Manager doesn't care. You pay for a parking spot? They don't care they give the spot to someone else then you go to the office they don't say anything but we don't know again there they don't care attitude. Not to mention the half painted exterior where the painters destroyed the property, got paint on residents cars. Think the manager cares? You guessed it, nope. Save yourself a headache and look elsewhere people that have lived at the Met for over a decade are fleeing."
"We lived here for two years, we loved our neighbors and the sense of community, but didn't care for how the property was kept, especially during our second year there. Great management teams, but seemed like the owners wouldn't listen to, and didn't really care what management had to say. Half of the amenities were down for about half the time we were there. Never even got to use the outdoor pool. The property would be better off if the owners actually listened/cared more. Besides the lack parking on the street and the small parking spaces in the garage, Avenue 5 is the biggest problem with this place. This property would probably be better off being owned by a different company. I wish we could have experienced this place when it was still the Metropolitan Apartments before Avenue 5 got their hands on it. Still, giving three stars for the sense of community here, and the great management teams. The most recent team, being the best - Jenifer, Tamra, and Cody! If this were based off Avenue 5 alone, it would definitely be a 1 star review. Makes sense why the management teams keep leaving. The way they've handled this property and their lack of interest/concern for the property has made it so we will not be considering another Avenue 5 property in the future."
