"I went here today to inquire about a one bedroom unit. The leasing guy who's only worked there about a week took me to a unit that was immediately available for rent. I walked inside and he told me this was a revamped unit. I could tell that the only thing new about it was maybe the kitchen counter, and the refrigerator. The kitchen cabinets looked like they were original from who knows what year, and all looked chewed up on the bottom of literally every single door. To top it off, I could see right away that the cabinet doors were painted matte black, and were not new when though I was told everything was redone. Both he and the manager were very friendly and eager to get me to sign a lease, but I think I'm going to pass on this. I drove around the complex to see what it was all about, and it honestly looked worse the further toward the back I went. Residents had stuff piled all over their patios and wherever they thought it should go, and the units themselves just looked outdated. I ended up talking with someone about this place a month or so ago, and they said they left as soon as their lease was up."
"They engage in shady practices, like delaying your lease renewals for month's due to "operational delays," effectively forcing you to stay longer, not honoring your original move-in dates. This is just one of many issues. Please do yourself a favor and stay away from this deceitful place. Update: After this post, we were contacted by Jorge, the same person we spoke with initially when we requested the lease to reflect the original move-in date. He now admits the mistake was made by the "office staff." Jorge resolved the issue yesterday, which is the most important part. I'm only moving the star review from 1-star to 3-stars because this issue never should have existed, and when initially confronted with the mistake, it should have been immediately resolved."
"I enjoyed living here. Lived at the place for around a year and a half. Timeframe was 2020-2022. Surrounding area is great, very peaceful. Felt comfortable walking to the park near. Lot of cool farmer markets during the summer. Close to base. Groceries and shopping not too far away. Maintenance was pretty responsive. Cons I can think of was that parking was a hassle many times especially on weekends and later in the day. Sometime could hear neighbors through the wall. As well, I needed maintenance for things such as plumbing issues and shelves falling but overally I enjoyed my stay there. Safe and quiet"
"EDIT: So our lease is up April of this year and as of today 01/12/24 we got our letter to renew. Which is offering us a 6.75% increase in rent after a year of automatic on time payments. To me it seems putting this on our door three months early with such a high rent increase is because of our honest, negative review. Their increase is just under what Tacoma tenant laws allow. The same apartment is advertised online for what we originally paid $1659 for a 2 bdrm 1 bath. Beware if you live here after a year they will increase your rent! I rarely write negative reviews and that's because most things can be explained as a simple bad moment or day. Harbor Oaks deserves this review. Do not waste your money or time. While they are trying to get you to sign a lease they may answer your calls or emails but once you're a resident good luck. The maintenance is a bright spot to this place. They are prompt if they can be but there has been at least three different sets of maintenance men in a nine months period. I find that quite strange. Within a month of our move in date the dryer that was brand new kept shutting off. I put in a request to have it looked at and they did the very next day. They told me what I already knew that the vents haven't been cleaned in a long time. They told me it would be six weeks until someone would come to do the entire complex. They did credit my account like $20 dollars to use their shared laundry. Huge inconvenience since I rented this place knowing an amenity was a washer and dryer in unit. As the six weeks approached I was told it would be six more weeks and so I took action and asked for the corporate number. The corporate lady gave me the same rehearsed speech the front office gal kept telling me. That we are sorry it's an inconvenience they are shopping around for a good price to get the entire complex done.Once I made her aware I knew my renters rights her tune changed so quickly it made my head spin. She called later that day to apologize and the next day the entire complex vents were cleaned. The crime is very nerve racking and is never addressed. I have seen three cars stolen and windows shattered. Also heard about gun shots at the far end of the complex. They never seem to take any time to address the rising crime and commit to making this a safer complex. Which is a shame since people are paying so much to live here. Next issue: the pool. We moved from Alaska so to be fair we were ready for the pool to open in April. But as the temperatures rose and we kept asking for an opening date same answers from the front desk folks that they can't find someone to clean it. It finally opened late June. I can't remember exactly but it was closed by the health department around a month to a month and half later. Never reopened all Summer. We have a toddler so the pool was a reason we chose this place. Also the playground was a reason we chose this place as well. The bolts are coming off of the slide which makes it wobbly and unsafe. It needs to be torn down and replaced or at least repaired. Next the park area is constantly full of trash and sometimes broken glass around the playground can sit there for weeks before it's addressed. The trash is a mess it is always overflowing and seems they should have it picked up more often. They never miss a chance to let us know we will need to pay more if trash is not disposed of properly. This is their issue and the tenants that already pay extra for water, sewer and trash. Also pay extra for a parking spot. For almost $2000 a month that is outrageous. A complex wide letter was sent to let us know the office will no longer be open but by appointment only to better serve us. Which is interesting because another amenity they promote is a gym. Which is in the office that is never open, regardless of business hours. We will not be renewing and you should look elsewhere if you would like a safe, inviting, respectful complex to live in."
"These Apts are awful! You can't ever find parking. You have to pay for storage and the price is now up to $75 that most Apts have for free. The pool is dirty and and freezing. The gym is fine but only open during business hrs . If they are even there. Maintenance is awful. Always a new person. They have to fix the same thing like 3 times because they don't do it right. The trash is always overflowing they need to have it picked up more often. Cars getting stolen, windows broken. Kids keep trying to break into my storage unit. They're is always new management I've lived here 2 years and had 3 different managers. They never answer the phone. The last lady Kaitlyn was pretty good. But now she's gone. My son gets bullied every time he goes out to take out the trash. By some wannabe thugs who think it's fun to throw rocks and threaten to kick my sons a$$ . My son is special needs! And can't defend himself. They were reported to management nothing was done! Now I get a renewal of my lease thrown on the ground by my apt saying that if I don't want a $500 a month increase that I need to renew within 6 days 3 of which are a holiday weekend! And not to mention my lease isn't up until Jan 2024! It's Sept! Thing just keep getting worse and worse here. I am disabled and on sec 8 so I can't just up and move. I hope the new management gets this place back in order. But so far it doesn't seem like it."
