"If anyone has ever dealt with any other housing authority or affordable housing companies can attest to the chaos that occurs while both living at their properties and dealing with the staff. More often than not housing authorities are understaffed and under funded leaving tenants without basic needs being met. BUT Anacortes Housing Authority is quite literally the opposite of this. It is ran better than EVERY single rental property I have ever lived at (the majority being non subsidized, affordable or HUD). The staff has superb communication, are respectful, knowledgeable and friendly. I put in a work order in the evening and there was someone who came by the next day. I have been incredibly surprised and impressed at the due diligence and in general how this organization is ran. On top of it all this saved our family from becoming homeless. I’m a single mom and I recently became very sick with Crohn’s disease. Then a series of very serious health problems arose while on the immunosuppressants for the disease. Which put me out of work for almost 2 months. There’s no way I could have afforded rent anywhere else during this time. I’m very grateful for Anacortes housing authority for the services they give and the home they have provided us. If you’re interested in moving in to one of the apartments, I highly recommend it. And within the process of applying I recommend being diligent about turning in needed paperwork and responding quickly to any inquiries they have: it’ll speed up the process quickly."
"They have restored my faith in humanity and I'll never forget it as long as I live. The staff at The Anacortes Housing Authority is respectful of people with different abilities. I can see that they screen very carefully because my neighbors are gems. I feel I'm part of a community now, after not having one much of my life."
"I really appreciate all the staff at the Anacortes Housing Authority. The lady's in the office are always polite and I'm sure they have had to deal with some ridiculous situations and people at times. The maintenance guys are awesome! Again always polite and friendly! I have never had to wait more than 24hr to get a response to a work order. They keep the property really nice and clean and go above and beyond for us residents in my opinion. I came after Bryan so I don't know what it was like before he took over but it really sounds like he did a fantastic job and he is definitely doing something right because the staff really seems like a team and they all seem happy with him. I really think they deserve a way better score but that is just my opinion...."
"BEWARE! I Used to live at Anacortes Housing Property on 29th St. My unit was burglarized multiple times and cops called numerous times and my landlord never accommodated my requests to move units and wouldn't allow to move to another city. I am a person with PTDS and nothing was taken seriously I lived there with my 4 children. As a single parent our lives where in danger and no one said a thing including the neighbors. I was gangs-talked by my own landlord and neighbors and I am hispanic and only hispanic there everyone around me is either elderly and disabled or a white woman/with husband kids and their disabilities. I was never living there in peace getting constant harrastments from my neighbor across from me. We did get into an argument until she stopped her harassment against me and my children. I had no choice but to move away with no money no place to stay due to my safety concerns not taking seriously. I asked for protection orders and nothing was granted regardless of me providing evidence. So if your hispanic/Mexican I do not recommend this place. They will make your life a living hell up until you have no choice but to move. They didn't pay for any of my expenses and no apology and no reaching out to me regarding my concerns."
"My family and I were on the verge of homelessness. We took action once we realized our situation and got on every waiting list in the state for all types of programs. Skagit Housing Authority was a minimum 7 year wait list. The Anacortes Housing Authority was only roughly a year long wait list for a 3 bedroom. We waited the full year, remained in contact through phone calls and check in's to insure our spot on the list was still valid and we could see it moving up. We regularly got mail showing our placement on the list as well. We have lived here for over a year and absolutely love it. The staff is very friendly, the maintenance and groundskeeping are very friendly and awesome keeping everything working and clean. The program has saved my family from being on the streets. We are grateful."
