Reviews of Historic John Johnson Farm
"Great historical tour. Takes about 30-50 minutes depending on how long you want it. The house is decorated like people 200 years ago lived, with items that are actually from that time period."
"Exceptional things happened here. History is so well preserved. Worth the drive to see this Gem. Elsa Johnston's arm was healed here, which is so neat because she loved to paint and decorate. Much of this is preserved so you can see it. Really a wonderful place."
"Where Joseph Smith was pulled out by mops and got hit with feathers and tarr. Also, Sydney Rigdon and Joseph saw God and His Son here. I think John Johnson was so generous for sharing this place with them."
"Historic Johnson Farm is an incredible window into life in the 1800s and The early days of the church. Pretty wild how much history happened here. Also what blew me away is all the 1800s modern features this home had (for the time period). Fireplaces had warming cabinets, a well pump was inside the home, they had summer kitchens with double doors to make the perfect cheese, centralized fireplace to warm the entire house in winter, windows designed for lighting perfection, there are no hallways so it's a maximized, efficient, use of space, 1st floor rooms for giving birth or guests, doors placed strategically so guests like Joseph Smith have a private entrance to work from. The missionary guides are fantastic and have such an indepth knowledge of this wonderful place. Very peaceful here. Bring picnic food as many tables exist to spend time reflecting."
"One of the best Latter-day Saint historic sites in all of Ohio. A detailed restoration of the John Johnson Farm, where Joseph Smith resided for a time and where some of the most important revelations in Latter-day Saint history (including Doctrine and Covenants 76) were received. Furthermore, the tour is very detailed about the history of the structure and the area. It is a beautiful area and a very scenic drive to get there."
