Reviews of Association of Ex Pupils Ohio Soldiers' and Sailors' Orphans' Home / Ohio Veterans' Children's Home
"I was there in the early 90s and it was the worst place ever ... all the things we had to go thru was terrible to do to kids"
"My mother and her brother were residents at the Home in 1930s. Her dad was a WWI veteran and a tobacco farmer and couldn’t afford to raise the kids, after her mom past away at an early age. My mother said the Home was the best thing and she received a quality education. Her brother wasn’t as keen on the place. I took my mom for visit in 2004. She remembered a young girl who had past away at the Home when she was there and was buried in the cemetery near the chapel, I think the girl’s last name was Knight. We were able to get into the building that housed the cafeteria, mom remembered playing a piano in that building. She also showed me her dorm building. My mom remembers getting one shinning dime or an orange for Christmas and she was most grateful. My mom and my Uncle are both now in heaven."
"This is a museum that displays the history of the Ohio Veterans Children's Home. Also known as the Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Orphanage. Commissioned by Abraham Lincoln and operated until 1995. Historical photographs, clothing, firearms and other memorabilia."
"Visited the museum during the annual reunion. The staff was extremely helpful and insightful. It was a very educational experience and well worth the time to learn about the history of the home."
"All manner of OSSO Home memorabilia on display and in storage. Helpful friendly volunteer staff who were associated in some way with the Home. Small building with small rooms packed with exhibits. Open only a few hours a week, when staff is available. Tours may be scheduled for school and alumni groups."
