Reviews of Lockington Locks Historical Area
"The locks are interesting, however there is no path other than walking along the grass hillside. It seems like the state of Ohio could put at least a level, gravel path along the locks."
"It's quite a peaceful place to stroll around history. It could use a lil bit of a cleanup from trash in the locks though. Dogs in the area seem to run loose. Maybe a few more information panels bout the locks would be nice as well in my opinion."
"The five visible locks at this site are among the best I've seen along the old Miami and Erie Canal route. They originally helped raise and lower canal boats up to the level of the Loramie Summit which was at the top of the locks and continued for 23 miles."
"Spent a few hours at the site of the Lockington Locks, a point on the former Miami Erie Canal where six locks in close succession raised or lowered canal boats 78 ft. reaching the highest point on the canal between Lake Erie and the Ohio River. The parts made largely of wood like the gates are gone, but the long narrow compartment within which the boats are raised and lowered were made of limestone rock and are very good shape considering their age."
"I took my dogs and my husband to visit the locks. An amazing place to visit. If you brush up on history the great Flood of 1913 highly effected this area because of the canal that ran through town. Though because of the flooding the canal was abandoned and mostly filled in. The locks still remain and run into the Miami River, where if you walk down to the embankment you can see where the old bridge was before the flood destroyed it. Great town if you love history. Check out the houses near the locks you can see where they were underwater."
