"We visited the grounds of Ormiston Mansion while doing a fun winter scavenger hunt run by the Fairmount Park Conservancy. This red brick Georgian house was built in1798. The Philadelphia Historic Commission awarded it historic designation status. You can see the Register Plaque by the front door. There's a dedicated group of volunteers who help care for the building and grounds. Structural highlights include the rooftop widow's walk and covered porch. Their Alphabet Garden of flowers, veggies and herbs is a PHS award-winner."

"Definitely make it out for the Christmas Mansions! They are so beautiful and the guides are very knowledgeable. There is also tea and cookies at Ormiston, as well as some of the others involved (Woodford, Laurel Hill, and Strawberry Mansion)."

"Ormiston Mansion is a beautifully restored, yet approachable mansion in Fairmount Park. Built in the 1700's by a wealthy Scottish merchant, Edward Burd, the home has its roots in the UK. The home is maintained entirely by volunteers of the Royal Heritage Society of the Delaware Valley. Fun and varied events are held throughout the year to raise money for the historic home's upkeep and maintenance. The highlight of the calendar year is a lavish Christmas party where the house is lit entirely by candlelight, a lavish colonial-era buffet is served and carols sung by the wassail bowl. This festive event is aptly titled "Wassail". While the highlight of the home is the Wassail Party, Ormiston Mansion is a home for all seasons and a very approachable one at that. Guests are encouraged to "sit a spell" and have a friendly conversation with the volunteers of Ormiston and tour the house in a leisurely, but informal manner. Ormiston, is a lively approachable historic home nestled in leafy Fairmount Park, which welcomes guests throughout the year."
