Reviews of Sportsmen Motel
"Not glamorous but a good place to just crash for a short period/night. Very clean & surprisingly quiet for being on the main drag. Close to Safeway, Wal-Mart & downtown. I did find the toilet in room "12" quite small and pink (lol). Also, there's a coffee stand very close just thru the parking lot."
"We stumbled upon this place when our other reservation had fallen through. Great price, the room was very clean and spacious, laundry facilities on-site, grocery store nearby and close to town. Service was good - I felt very comfortable that the place was well-managed."
"I first stayed at this hotel about four years ago. I live over on Whidbey Island, but I come over to Port Angeles frequently because of friends and I just like the area. I also travel a lot, and stay in many hotels up and down the West Coast. This is my absolute favorite hotel, and you are never going to find as good an accommodation for the rates than this place. I was just sending the website link for the hotel to a friend over on the island, and I stumbled on these reviews. I was shocked at some of the negative reviews. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and there’s always at least two sides to every story, so I encourage you to be objective, and if you’re coming to this area, give this place a chance. It’s not just that there’s no way you’re going to get a better value for your money than this place, but it really is just nice. The rooms are all a little individual, and I literally feel like I am at home, not in some cookie-cutter motel. The kitchen rooms are great! Yes, I may be a little on the pedestrian side, but you know, sometimes it’s just nice to come home, throw a frozen pizza from Walmart in the oven, and watch TV. Oh, Walmarts about a mile away, and it’s 24 hour. I have stayed in the smoking rooms, and they do not reek of cigarettes, it’s barely noticeable, if at all. I think they repaint them frequently, because the walls are white. When I first stayed here this place rated a five. It is better now. They put a nice big television sets a few years ago, The rooms are immaculate, including the kitchen, refrigerator, and stove/oven. I have never seen any mold, even near the windows, and that’s almost impossible to avoid here on the peninsula. Yes, there is no air conditioning. So what? It doesn’t get that hot here, the windows open, the air is clean, and each room has at least one big box fan in it which is more than adequate. Anyhow, during the day you should be out doing things! At night, it’s almost always cool out here on the peninsula. On another note, one of the things I like is the architecture; I hate using this word, but the bottom line is it’s very “vintage”. The way the doorways are cut within the rooms, the furnishings and fixtures, it’s actually kind of nice. Reminds me of when I was a kid. Only thing missing is a swimming pool with one of those basement bars that you can look in the swimming pool while you sit there. We used to stay at a place like that just outside San Francisco when I was a kid. One thing I found troubling was anyone saying that the staff is rude, etc. Port Angeles is fortunate enough to have an outstanding surgeon, so when I needed major surgery last summer I chose to use this hospital here. For logistical reasons it was best that I stayed in town for about two weeks after the surgery. Of course I stayed here, it wasn’t a hard decision. I don’t think a day went by when one of the owners didn’t deliberately check on me, and they even offered to run up to the store for me if I needed it during the days I was unable to drive. These are nice people. This is also one of the few hotels that I’ve stayed at frequently in the Puget Sound area, if not the only hotel I’ve stayed at, that I’ve never noticed any police activity or people whom I shall politely refer to as scumbags hanging out in the area. I think they know better. What I do notice is a lot of the repeat customers, who all seem to be nice folks, and I imagine they stay here for the same reason I do. It’s a great place. I never see litter or cigarette butts in the parking lot, the grounds are well-maintained, the building is in good repair, the plumbing is great, and again, the rooms, beds, furnishings are all clean. Just before I wrote this review I really gave the room at once over. I couldn’t find any dust behind the television set, on top of the picture frames or doorways, and underneath the kitchen and bathroom sinks was immaculate. Thanks. Have a nice day."
"Two queens for $70 a night - awesome. Room was a basic, and very clean motel room. Exterior of motel was well kept. Staff was friendly and check-in took less than five minutes. Ordered some pizza and overall it was very easy for our family of five to stop in for a good night's rest. Thank you!"
"I like this place because the people who run it are honest, straight-shooters and really nice. It's clean and the beds are comfortable enough, etc., but really--when someone who doesn't know you from Adam lets you call and reserve the last room at the last minute (11 a.m.) and then waits until you show up (after 7 PM) and the room is still available even though the place is full and they probably had to tell several people that there was no vacancy--those are my kind of people! I did call twice and let them know my progress, which was slow, but I was eternally grateful to find the room actually still available when I got there because I've had rooms given away even with guaranteed deposits and messages about being late. Real people run this place and that's good."
