Reviews of Rain Forest Hostel
"Staying here was a truly unique experience worth telling folks about. Jimmy, the host, has had an extraordinary life. With that life comes an array of stories, values, and a drive to give back and make this world a better place in community with like-minded people. There is something truly remarkable about a person that will open their doors to anyone in need, and that's what you get at the rainforest hostel. I know I certainly don't keep my house clean enough to be able to do that. This is Jimmy's home, and he's willing to let you come in, get comfortable, and put your values into practice. Come knowing that your basic essentials will be met - a bed, blankets, pillows, towels, and maybe even coffee and a French press. A fully stocked kitchen and comfortable places to sit, surround by awesome house plants. It's not luxury but it's not supposed to be. You will be asked to either do some chores or pay some extra money, which was fine by us. We were heading out early and opted to increase our donation. It was a good location for 4 women to stop over and sleep before entering Olympic national Park for a Hoh River trail backpacking trip. We started off the trip with a hot shower and dry gear. The lower bunks have reading lights, which was a nice touch. The only thing I feel compelled to say is that Jimmy's house definitely has some mold present somewhere. It's bound to happen I suppose with any structure that's been standing in the rainforest for a long time, but for a few of us who we sensitive to the mold, it may have been a better move to camp in the yard. It wasn't something that we saw but there is a definite smell of mold developing somewhere. I hope that Jimmy can find the root of the issue and remediate it, both for the travelers and for his own health as well. It's true that when you arrive Jimmy will talk with you for a while about his life and that will include politics. As a pretty left leaning person myself, it didn't bother me. But if you find yourself to be a conservative person who can't sit and listen to the opinions of others for a while, maybe skip this one. P.s. peep the lot full of many versions of the same Subaru wagon. Interesting!"
"Jimmy´s Rainforest Hostel is a real special place! It´s perfect located: 5 minutes to Ruby Beach and near Hoh Rainforest. Jimmy himself is very friendly and inspiring. The rooms are not super, super clean but it´s -especially regarding the price- totally fine. I loved staying there and would defenitly stay again!"
"It's a place with a warm bed, running water, and hot showers. If you're expecting more than that, you'll be disappointed, but it's honestly a fantastic deal. Cheaper than nearby campsites, and it's got a bed! Jimmy, the owner, is kind and personable. And honestly seems more concerned with giving people an affordable place to stay than in making the max profit. Yes, it's beds in spare rooms in his house (or camping in his beautiful garden). But the place has a nice charm that you'll like."
"This is an overdue review from my family (2 adults & 2 teens) who stayed at Jimmy's hostel for a night on August '21. Prior to our stay, Jimmy was very responsive to our inquiries about his place and Covid/vaccination-related procedures. Since it was our first experience staying in a hostel, we wanted to get a heads up on what to expect. He provided specific information on checking in hours and mentioned the road that led to the hostel may be foggy and had minimal street lights. We followed his advice and checked in before sunset. Upon arrival, we got briefed with another family who was also staying the night about house rules & easy chores for each person to complete before checking out. All in all, we're so thankful to have found his place on a travel guide for visiting the Olympic National Park. Keep in mind it is not a motel nor a fancy furnished room, but for my family who only needed a bed and a shower, it was sufficient. Jimmy is a true gem we consider meeting him THE highlight for our road trip in PNW & CA. Although our encounter with Jimmy was short, the stories he shared displayed his kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness to the local community. God bless him with more strength and long life! We highly recommend his hostel for those who are willing to take the 'unconventional' lodging choice. We WILL definitely stay with him again if we visit the area. P.S. We would definitely suggest going to the nearby Ruby Beach, thanks to his suggestion, we took the most gorgeous sunset pics."
"Last Saturday was our second stay with Jimmy at the Rain Forest Hostel. We've enjoyed our time staying here. Jimmy is respectful, insightful, and a wonderful host. As this hostel is remotely located near the Hoh Rain Forest, the hostel provides a great way to visit for a day or so. It is also only a 5 minute drive from Ruby Beach! I would recommend this place to anyone looking to learn about Native American culture, the area, or listen to Jimmy's stories throughout his life."
