"We see Manny Ziegler at South Island Medical and she is so fantastic! She is a breath of fresh air, she listens, is very levelheaded, and competent. We really like the support staff too. Glad to have found this place to finally get settled with a Primary Care provider."
"Short version: Doctor Duncan ordered a useless and expensive test to cover for the fact that his nurse practitioner put my health at risk by not being thorough when recommending treatment to me. He also lied and said that when happened to me after was impossible only for it to be confirmed by his own blood work a couple hours later. Long version: South Island Medical staff put my health at risk because they were busy and then tried to cover up for it later without apology. I come in for a persistent headache that had gone on for weeks. Because of other symptoms I was told not to use NSAIDs and only Tylenol. I took under the max dose but the bottle clearly says to consult a doctor before taking it more than 10 days in a row. When I called back to inquire about that, the nurse practitioner was dismissive and said of course it's safe, just keep taking it. A couple days later the headache is still really bad and I'm in pain at work. I go to a same day provider at Polyclinic downtown. The doctor there ran a bunch of quick neurological tests that South Island Medical didn't even talk about and then ordered a blood test to make sure it was actually safe to keep taking Tylenol. Turns out, NOPE! It has the warning on the label for a good reason and my liver wasn't standing up to continued use. They instructed me to stop taking it immediately. When I finally got my appointment with Doctor Duncan almost a month later, he completely dismissed the other doctor's instincts and findings saying there was no reason to order a blood test at 10 days and that "literally nobody has ever had elevated liver enzymes from Tylenol". He said it MUST be something else and ordered a Hepatitis panel which was expensive but I agreed because he's the doctor. Then just a couple hours later after his own office's blood test came back, he totally flipped saying that I do have a sensitive liver and should avoid taking all liver metabolized drugs in the future. I'm sure his malpractice insurance prevents him from actually apologizing for the errors or admitting fault but it doesn't force him to be rude and dismissive to his patients. He chose to do that all on his own."
"South Island Medical Clinic provides the most personal health care possible. In particular, Cathy Robinson and Brook Ott have been amazing examples of thoroughness, compassion and clarity. They always make me feel like I am their most important patient, but I know they make each person who walks through their door feel that way."
