"They got me in quickly when I was having persistent chest discomfort and palpitations and did an EKG and x ray. Dr William Shawler couldn’t grasp the fact that I have a sensitivity to potassium and magnesium and when I told him I was having a reaction to a sport water with added electrolytes he acted like I was claiming I had a water allergy and just made faces at me and told me it’s not the water. I have this reaction to baking soda and bananas as well but this time I was concerned about the intensity and persistence of the symptoms. I had messaged my doctor and she told me to please go to the ER so I did. So because my potassium and magnesium levels were in the normal range “there’s no problem”. At the end of my visit Dr. Shawler explained it’s normal to have these palpitations (which I agreed PVC’s are normal. Also not the only symptoms I was having) and insisted that I hadn’t been able to sleep because I was worrying too much when in reality I could not get any sleep due to the physical intensity of the symptoms and I wasn’t over thinking anything I was just in a great deal of physical discomfort. He quickly bolted out the door ending the conversation. He wasn’t there to listen or understand he just checked off his boxes. I could barely get a word in and he talked over me every time I tried. Incredibly concerning. We then waited about an hour in the room before my family member looked outside the door and asked the nurse if we could go who was just chatting it up with another nurse. She finally then came in took my IV out then left leaving me to disconnect all of the wires from my chest, blood pressure monitor from my arm and whatever else I was hooked up to, myself. Wouldn’t trust this doctor with my life. Glad it wasn’t any worse."
"This ER is the worst ER I’ve ever been to. I’ve been here on two occasions, once with my father who came on ambulance, he was here for seven hours, the majority spent in the waiting room and he ended up leaving without seeing the doctor at 4am. The second time my husband was in a severe car accident it took six hours to get a CT scan and according to the nurse it would have been an additional three hours just to see a doctor. I understand how under staffed the medical field is but it was the blatant lack of compassion for patients that really bothered me. Please take the extra time and drive to OHSU."
"NOT THE PLACE TO GO FOR REAL EMERGENCIES! Service is AWFUL!! THEY TAKE THEIR SWEET TIME WITH EVERYTHING!! they literally take forever and when they tried putting an IV into my sister's arm, they kept missing the vein as of the staff and nurses haven't been properly trained. To top it all off, two of the younger nurses in the back were behind the front counter OPENLY flirting and taking their sweet time printing out Check-Up results for all of the patients in the waiting lobby (WHICH IS ALWAYS PACKED AF)!!"
"Usually have a few hours wait which could be normal. Some of the staff there can not take patients seriously. Happened with me and my fiancee at separate times. Came in last with severe ear pain, discharge, and ear canal swelling. They listed it as just "ear pain". You have to strongly advocate for yourself. There IS however some staff that are the other side of the coin. They are bubbly and caring."
"All ER rooms take a while nowadays, I arrived here at 9am and had a procedure done and was ready to leave by noon. There was about 8 people ahead of me when I arrived. They had to do tests in between and each step took about 1 hour. They do have an overflow area in a hall in the back, which some other reviewers mention since it isn't too private. They didn't need it when I arrived but it likely gets used as it gets more busy during the day. This has become normal in hospitals, the peace health ER is much much worse. They do appear to make a good effort to keep everything clean, which I can't say the same for peace health. Wait isn't as bad if you avoid coming after 11am, it was getting busier after that point. Overall it wasn't a bad experience, the person that helped me with a CT scan seemed a bit irritated at existence but otherwise I have nothing to complain about. All the doctors, nurses, and aides were helpful and friendly. They did a great job answering any questions I have and they made it clear I can say I'm not comfortable with the options given and try to find alternatives where possible."
