Reviews of American Behavioral Health Systems - Residential/Inpatient
"I have never been there but my boyfriend is there right now, along with 27 other hungry men trying to make better lives for themselves. They are all hungry, not being fed enough. They can't concentrate on recovery when they are so hungry. Some of them are thinking about leaving. I called & asked if I could order pizzas or snacks or donate money for the guys to get fed more instead of them walking out. The guy told me "well I don't know what to tell you. They know what they can do." If they can't afford to feed the people they are supposed to be helping, some of who have to be there because court orders then they should be closed down. So disappointed in this place."
"Went there to change my life and better myself in a safe environment. The facility needs serious cleaning and repair. There was a huge mess in the smoking area caused by the kitchen grease trap being clogged and over flowing out of the sewer lids and onto the ground. It took 3 weeks to get cleaned up. A client overdosed and had to be hospitalized after laying on the bathroom floor for who knows how long before staff found him. (So much for the safe place for recovery) Clients aren't provided many options for entertainment other than old torn up books, a ping pong table with broken paddles or 2 tvs to share between around 100 people. The staff is nice and friendly for the most part but seem to lack proper training and are managed poorly. Consistency in operations is non existent due to lack of experience caused by high staff turn over. New employees train other new employees to the best of their ability. Communication of issues takes forever because a client must ask their counselors who then have to forward the request and often no result is seen. (I asked to see a healthcare provider via my counselor and never saw one. My counselor confirmed sending my request.) The staff isn't to blame and does the best it can to assist clients who are often frustrated by being left in the dark constantly as a result of rediculous policies and procedures. Management at ABHS appears to be very indecisive, slow to make decisions and frequently fails to plan in advance for anything they encounter. Going back to the overdose incident for example- it would be the assumed immediate response to most people after finding a client had overdosed that they needed to drug test and search clients immediately. Instead, ABHS took no action until 2 days later. Ultimately the inexperienced staff, horrible management, and poor policies set in place to run a therapeutic community in an over crowded, run down dump resulted in more than 50% of ABHS clients testing positive for COVID-19. This number could and should have been much lower. I hope a complete investigation of this facility, it's management and this incident is conducted by the state and that it does not reopen until it can operate in a safe and efficient manner. Clients shouldn't fear for their life at a recovery facility and they deserve answers to questions that are about their life and well being. In the end my experience at ABHS was a disaster and will never be forgotten. Fortunately most of the clients with covid seem to be asymptomatic. It terrifies me thinking of the tragedy that could have occured had more severe or life threatening outbreak occured."
"I have worked at ABHS for over 5 years. I truly am impressed with the way the employees have been handling the COVID situation were all facing in our daily work environment. We have not had any confirmed cases with Clients or Staff. We are all doing what is necessary to stay safe on a day in and day out basis. We are still saving lives. We all should be commended for what we do. I am glad we are essential workers and still able to work and make a living. For that, we should all be grateful."
"My son was admitted for in-patient, I called several times to ask questions n share concerns as he became very ill 2 days after he arrived spitting up black stuff ( I was told that many others were very ill also) despite numerous calls to the health clerk I never received a call back, my son is not a complainer, he keeps to himself for the most part. He did ask that I send some vitamins to help with his immune system saying the health care was bad n after reading a review I was concerned. After apprx 2 weeks there were other issues that he was not at peace with n after sharing with his father n myself chose to leave. I was told the 3 bottles of vitamins were forgotten n immediately started to call n left numerous messages throughout the week, I eventually reached someone who took info down n would call back, days later reached another person, same story ( nice ladies btw ) I made call again today n reached a lady who made call to the proper dept n let me know that after 7 days anything left behind would be disposed of. Not impressed with this place, I was also told that it was filthy."
"I realize that we all make mistakes but if you need to be here then go! This place is not a daycare or a place in the park. It is here for those who need to get there life back (period). Yes family is a great help with the healing process but it takes people who have over come there own addictions to NOT be fooled by the people they are trying to help. I say stay clean and be a better person than the one who is in there!"
