Reviews of Harbor History Museum
"Really cool museum and free, way beyond what you’d expect for a small town. There’s a one room schoolhouse you can go into and imagine what it was like back then. The main exhibit area is also first class, featuring the collapse of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and the settlement of the peninsula with lots of artifacts and videos and such. They’re currently working in a big expansion featuring a big old boat of some sort. Worth a visit for sure!"
"A wonderful place to stop in especially on a hot day! We had lots of fun walking through the exhibits and learning about local history! I love museums like this where there is a mix of hands on aspects so people of all ages can interact and learn! Make sure to go and see the schoolhouse and the boat they are restoring!! The staff is super kind and down to help and direct you around the museum! Make sure to write something in the guest book!"
"This is a definite stop for folks who love history and artifacts. This free museum is very well layed out and depicts the establishment and growth of the Gig Harbor Island. There are friendly docents and staff there to answer questions and explain the rich history of Gig Harbor. We particularly enjoyed the First Narrows bridge catastrophy exhibit."
"Fun stop! Ok for older kids- ages 6+, but mostly geared towards adults. Interesting history of Gig Harbor and run by folks who clearly take great care and pride in their work."
"It has been such a wonderful experience. From the early settlers to our current inhabitants. Going to the harbor History Museum and pulling into the parking lot you can see that there is so much pride taken in the history of the area. Located on the waterfront of the town of Gig Harbor in a picture a setting Stan's the harbor History Museum. Before walking into the door you are greeted by a statue of a fisherman with an extremely large salmon. You are greeted by a fabulous greeter and you can see and exhibit of pieces of iron from Galloping Gertie as well as walking through the door and up the staircase you will go into an area that has Native American history and then history of the early settlers as well as how people make money traded companies that were established within the area. And then you can also see pastimes and a very beautiful Shenandoah is outside and dry dock that is being redone. After you finish that exhibit you can go down into the old school house. This has been such a great experience. As our experience came to a close we entered back into the main 48 of the museum and was greeted by beautiful beautiful artwork. Thank you so much we really enjoyed it"
