"I decided I wanted a sleeve tattooed. Purely aesthetic, I opted for a geometric pattern, partially in color. After viewing the artists at Icon, I determined Lucky Matthews' style of tattooing would be perfect for the piece I had in mind. I called Icon and spoke with a friendly, professional receptionist who helped me book a consultation with him. Upon arrival at Icon, I was struck by the open floor plan and friendly atmosphere. It had a welcoming, come as you are, non-judgmental feel to it. The place was well lit and clean, with hip-hop playing at a decent volume. There are 6 stations belonging to the respective artists. I met Lucky, and he seemed like that cool dad you used to know - nice, articulate, matter-of-fact, but idgaf attitude. He was very friendly when he spoke, but I could tell that he knew what he was good at, what he wasn't good at, and also that he wasn't afraid to say it. He was nice, but he told it like it is, and I respect that... some boundaries should be pushed, but not the ones your tattoo artist sets for himself. I came in with an idea, examples of what I liked, told him my budget, gave him artistic freedom, and we set a potential start date. When the day finally came around, I was presented with a beautiful design that was unique, but akin to the examples I liked. Now, I'm not much on conversation, and while we chatted about this and that during our sessions, most of them were spent with quiet concentration, which was quite nice. My sleeve took 20+ hours over several sessions. It was completed in a reasonable amount of time and came within budget. My sleeve is striking, and I get compliments daily. I will recommend Lucky at Icon again and again to anyone looking for new ink."
