Reviews of Red Square Euro Foods
"Located inside of Valley Harvest Market International Foods, on the left side when you enter. Not a huge selection, but they have a good selection of pelmeni, Eastern European cured meats, beers, and sweets, and good pickles."
"I bought cottage cheese 2 days ago in this store. One package had no expiration date so I asked the cashier and she said the cottage cheese is fresh they pack it every three days. And another cottage cheese package I got had expiration date good until 8/10. Well today I opened both of them, the one that had expiration date and should be good had a bad expired smell. And the cottage cheese that I was told by the store worker is fresh, had green mold in it. This store is known for selling expired foods but wasn't expecting to find mold! Horrible, even under the new management doesn't matter at all."
"Edited to add to the owner’s reply to my review: If your refrigerator and food handling were up to par to standards your meat produce wouldn’t be going bad long before the best by date. This wasn’t just one odd item, it was several products. Per our in person conversation today you confirmed your products come from different distributors. So, either you are faking the labels and best by dates or your refrigeration system isn’t working properly. In either scenario, you are selling rancid products and making excuses. Which is absolutely unacceptable. You are responsible for the products you sell in your store. You also mentioned in person lots of your products are very close to expiration dates and you are making customers aware of it. Why do you not have a sign next to the meat product section stating exactly that? You have many older customers who do not read small labels well and rely on information being told to them. I wasn’t aware you took over the store on March 10th. The previous owners were known to lie about expiration dates and did repackage old products with new labels. If inventory maintenance took place, how did you miss the perforated vacuum sealed packaging of the expired kolbasa you sold to my parents yesterday? I appreciate you refunding me today for the expired kolbasa and listening to my concerns. I hope you go through your inventory and actually get rid of all the old and questionably refrigerated items. Selling rancid products isn’t worth the huge risk of poisoning your customers. ————————————————————— Since the new owner took over their food quality went down hill. DO NOT buy their meat products. Their refrigerator does not run at a proper temperature. Both my parents and I bought sausages and other prepackaged products which were beyond expired and rancid. The workers are dishonest about due dates and quality. They try to sell expired products to make profit. We made several complaints to King County health department alongside with picture evidence."
"Be sure to watch the expiration date. At the cash register they had these German chocolates which I love so I got 4 of them. They were $2 each so $8 for all. I opened one up when I got home and they were stale. So I check expiration date and what do you know? Expired 4 months ago. They weren’t at the register because they were a new or featured product but because they wanted to sell them ASAP as they are expired!"
"I go there to find foods from Eastern Europe, from all over Europe. Most of times their products are ok. Like 60-80% of times, unfortunately, and also if you know what to look for to know if it is good or not so good. I have been going there for years to get this or that. I learned early to look for expiration dates there… I got used to seeing mostly the same sales people, so sometimes I ask if this is fresh or something like that. Don't. These sales people work same way as in old Soviet Union. They lie. I don't know what takes to get an honest answer from them. There (in USSR) you had to be someone special or bribe well to get decent stuff. Here - what do I do? In the last 6-7 years I got spoiled food: cheeses, headcheese, stale bread and candy, old chocolates, ravioli (pelmeni) that made people sick, canned green peas that were spoiled, bad fish and cans of caviar that was bubbling out like champagne when opened, canned and frozen mushrooms that were bad. I started asking “if this is fresh” lately. It doesn't help much because only one young girl answers honestly. Others - lie, and very convincingly. Also, I stepped into this store one time about 10 minutes before their closing time not realizing it. They asked me to leave because “they were closing”. Then these two sales women stood in a parking lot for a long time chatting while I sat in my car, watched them and wondered if I was back in Soviet Union… Not a good shop. Sadly."
