Reviews of Double D Electrical, Inc.
"Rip-off and overpriced! Don't waste your time. They charge a $50 fuel surcharge even though they service other accounts the same day in the same area."
"I’ve used Double D Electrical (from Port Orchard) for a couple of remodel electrical needs in an old family home. During one of the visits they they put a light switch and outlets in the kitchen remodel and disconnected an existing dishwasher and garbage disposal. I informed them at the time that the electrical will need to remain due to putting in an island. Unfortunately recently, I had to call them back recently to troubleshoot the light switch that they put in the kitchen as every time it would trip the breaker. When I called them, I explain the fact that I had them out to install the switch and it wasn’t functioning. I had attempted to install the switch similar to others, but it failed to work. When they came out, they just informed me I was connecting the switch incorrectly (even though I was connecting it the same as all other switches in the house). While the technician was at the house, I informed him that I would be calling them back to reconnect the island. He crawled under the house and said there is no wiring and that they’d have to run a new line from the breaker box to the island. I was in shock. The prior technician should have left a Jbox below with the prior wiring. This was all for the visit and the tech left. Thinking this was a low charge visit as it only took a half hour, I was horribly surprised by receiving a minimum dispatch bill of $225+ $100 of technician fees for half hour worth of work for an invoice close to a total of $400. I called to discuss this and they said they would have Jason the owner give me a call. Typical of other reviews, Jason failed to call back but had his front desk call me back informing me Jason refused to adjust the invoice. I informed them that I would not be using them to hook up the rest of the electrical in the island, and if they had lost my faith. I strongly discourage others from employing Double D’s services. Lesson learned: 1) fully document all that was done and conversations with the tech (be sure to note the name), 2) ask dispatch what charges may be applied for an upcoming visit, 3) fully discuss billing prior to tech leaving and challenge charges at that time, 4) sadly…don’t expect businesses to be honorable…question everything, Update 1/24: I went to put the controller on a cadet wall heater they hooked up to existing wiring, and it fried the controller due to the fact they hooked the heater up to a bridged 20amp circuit (40 amps total)…these yahoos should know better. I can’t tell you how pissed I am at their incompetence. Now I need to get a more qualified electrician out here to fix their F-up."
"Pendant light installation. I hired Double D initially to install a ceiling fan, but when I called asked for someone to come by first because we live in an old cabin and we were not sure if it could be done and be up to code, fit, or work well enough to solve our problems. Even though I was told someone would come out beforehand, nobody did on the agreed date. I called again and nobody showed up again. So we bought a fan we thought would work. They showed up on the day of installation and it turns out the fan could not be installed to code without major work. They showed up earlier than scheduled but we were awake (it was pre-8am) and fine with that. There was a journeyman and an apprentice. We opted to have a pendant light installed (in a different location). The box was in. It was just a matter of connecting the three wires. They were here for $45 minutes and the bill was $350. It seems extreme to me. It’s a one person job and we got billed for both, not to mention the $175 fee just to send a person out. I was told, when I called to dispute the bill, that any job where the employees have to go “in the ceiling” that they need to have two people there, and it’s cheaper to have the journeyman and apprentice than one professional electrician. That may be true - I will have to research it further. Seems like a pretty high price to me. I should have done it myself. I have done a few myself before. Their fees are way too high to perform a pretty simple task. I don’t have a gripe with the work they did but the price is too high. The woman I spoke with on the phone was nice, but we will shop around next time. We have no reason to go back to Double D."
"This company defrauded me by billing a vastly different price than what they had quoted me on the phone, even though the service they performed fell within the originally discussed scope of work. I used them for an emergency when an electric line to another structure on my property got disconnected during construction. They said they could come and address the problem the same day, but only for a $500 emergency fee, which included a set amount of labor. I needed the problem fixed and agreed to it. They came and performed the services. It took no more then 20 minutes to do the work. When the bill came for $732, you can imagine my shock. The "emergency fee" was suddenly $645 and there was a $25 fuel charge that they never even mentioned. When I called to address it, I was sent to voicemail several times and no one returned my calls. Eventually I got a live person on the phone named Connie. I explained the situation and found her response to be rude and aggressive. She insisted they stated the higher price from the outset. But this is NOT true. I called many electricians that day looking for someone to fix this problem, and I kept notes in a notebook, including quoted prices. I also told two other people in my house what it was going to cost and they also remember $500. I even texted it to someone. Nobody accidentally misinterprets "five hundred" for "six hundred and forty five." I'm not complaining about paying a premium for an emergency fix. I agreed to that and under the circumstances was happy to have a solution - for the quoted price. What is unacceptable is having someone lie and run a billing fraud like this with impunity. Follow that up with a healthy does of condescension and rudeness and it really makes for an unpalatable and completely unacceptable experience. I have asked around about this company since this happened and have met at least one other person who had similar billing experiences with them. It appears from the other one-start reviews on here that this is their M.O. I hope this review prevents it happening to you or others. Buyer beware."
"I paid DD to install a ceiling fan and cable to a switch. They arrived early even though I told them not to as I would not be home; note the owner lives at the end of my street. The fan which is retractable called for solid wood brace which I told them about as the retractable fan is very heavy, but they refused to do this and instead went into the attic and installed a retro fan mount which really is not strong enough, evident by the fan not fitting flat against the ceiling. They installed a wire run about 4 feet across and about 5 feet down a wall (Part of the wall at the switch was already open for them), but refused to install the switches as I was using smart switches. Altogether they took about 20 mins max. When I got the bill I was charged time for them sitting on my driveway even though I told them not to arrive when they did, for more work time than they did, and for most of the parts that 'I' provided. Altogether about $400 for twenty minutes work if that. I do not recommend this company."
