Reviews of The Art of Hair
"I have had a nearly 10 year service history with Mike Bertish- the owner of this salon- who has cut my hair over this long time period. He calls his customers in the week before their appointment, and you have to return the call to confirm, or he will cancel your appt. I have no smart phone at this time, but have a landline. He did not call me this week (late December, I triple checked my Caller-ID), and we had a snowstorm and it was very cold (for Vancouver), and when I called his line, it had the disconnected beep-beep sound. I got to go home early on Thursday, December 30th and I had some important places to go, and after that I stopped by his place of business where he lives, a few hours after he closes (6:00 pm), because I was very concerned about his being in good health, with the snowstorm (very slippery) and the cold weather, etc., and rang his intercom buzzer. He has a two-way intercom with a light, so he can converse with you and see you from inside his business. He did not use the 2-way intercom, but instead came to the door and was visibly upset. I explained to him that I was confirming my appt. and was sorry if there was any inconvenience, and if he was ok. He told me he was very uncomfortable with this and so I confirmed my appt. and left. This bothered me afterward, in that I was concerned if there was something wrong, in that he didn't call me to confirm my appt.(he said he did), there was a snowstorm, and his phone number sounded disconnected when I called, and that he made me feel very uncomfortable about that. The next day (December 31st) was my appt. He made me wait in my car for 25 minutes and then brought me in to the shop, after he finished with his last customer. He then proceeded to tell me how he had felt so uncomfortable the night before, and that in 26 years in business no one had ever come over after hours to confirm an appt. He insisted that I did something very wrong and didn't consider my side of the story, or my concern for him, whom I thought was a friend. He then proceeded to inform me that he had consulted with 2 of his Psychiatry friends(!), and that they and he agreed that I have trouble with other peoples "ego boundaries" ! He then kept criticizing my character waiting for me to get a little upset, to stand up for myself a little, and when I mentioned the word "histrionics" (dramatics), that set him off, and he then said that he wouldn't cut my hair and then led me to the door, which we were sitting next to., further making me feel sad and betrayed, not to mention ruining my plans for New Years Eve, and having to look for another barber, after 10 years of his services. His provocations and rejection is extremely unprofessional, and since I'm human, hurts a lot, since we've been on very good terms for the last 10 years. I recommended a friend to him, but he only made one haircut visit to the shop, and I told Mike recently that I might be moving to Beaverton (maybe). Was this his way of saying goodbye? If you're ok with this kind of unprofessionalism and hurt that this behavior can cause, then please give him a try. But if you don't want this kind of emotional drag on your psyche - after 10 years of service - beware !"
"After three years of searching for a hairstylist and trying out numerous salons in Vancouver, I finally came to Mike - and I am not going anywhere else! He is a true artist of his trade - always ready to listen to what a client wants and delivering 100%. First time after leaving our stylist in LA I am thrilled with the color and cut! Mike is professional and skilled, but to top it all, he is a kind, giving, and loving person. Mike cares about every customer, meets his/her needs and goes beyond the expectations. He is funny, relatable, caring, and non-judgmental. What a gem! I am very grateful that in 2021 our paths crosse!"
"I wore my hair shaved to the skin for over 30 years, and came to Mike when I decided to begin growing it out - not only did I want to feel good about my appearance as my head turned into a dandelion, but after 30+ years of not having hair I had forgotten everything about how to care for it! From the first moment I spent in his chair while he listened attentively to everything I said, Mike grasped my challenges and priorities and gave me exactly what I was seeking; though I thought my hair awkward at its growth stage, he made me look polished and intentional, and provided me with a care routine that fit my lifestyle while also ensuring my hair was healthy and, if I may say, pretty! His advice and skill have made my hair outgrowth process an absolute delight rather than the nightmare so many suggested I would endure - the man is a gem! From products to service, Art of Hair provides outstanding value and quality. Mike has an easy, sensitive way with people, and his years of experience cutting/styling hair are apparent in the quality of his work. I cannot recommend him highly enough!"
"I thought I would never find another amazing hair stylist, and upon giving Mike the first try, I was hooked on his knowledge, his expertise as to what worked for my hair, along with what style works with my facial features. So now I have been getting my hair cut and styled by Mike, and I am so glad I made my first appointment with him, and I have no plans on going to any other hair stylist. I would TOTALLY recommend The Art of Hair to anyone, they will get more value out of any service that Mike has to offer, and his prices are, in my opinion, affordable as well. Thanks so much Mike for being you!!!!!"
"I found Mike on Google search and was very curious how it is possible to have 5 stars from this many customers, knowing that there is always somebody unhappy or negative no matter how well you do. So I decided to try Mike as I was looking for somebody knowledgeable and professional. When I was looking at the pictures on his website of women with haircuts and styles, I didn't quite see the hair styles that I wear, so I had slightly mixed feelings if it will be the right fit. However, after I had my hair cut with coloring and style, I was very impressed with how skilled and professional Mike is. He gave me one of the best haircut, color, and style I have not had for a long time. Mike is an artist and has been working in this field, especially serving women for 25 years, which makes him exceedingly sensitive to colors, as well as figuring out your personality and taste. There was absolutely nothing that I would say Mike could do better at this point. My husband was also very impressed to what he has done to my hair! I would highly recommend Mike's services to everyone as I believe Mike is doing what he is called to do and what he enjoys doing... I am looking forward to see what he is going to do next to my hair!"
