Reviews of Tavolàta Stone Way
"Years ago, we had a HORRIBLE experience at the other location, so we were hesitant to go back. HOWEVER, they had a “two dishes and bottle of wine for $45” deal so how could we not? Our server, Kelly, was funny, helpful, and very energetic. He certainly added to our great experience. I assumed the dishes would be smaller for the deal, but I had leftovers! The rigatoni was authentic And delicious. The paparadelle had orange and mint. It was a curious option for pasta so we just had to try and it was awesome. Every bite I took I was confused and delighted. We also ordered focaccia as an appetizer and it was the best I’ve ever had. Tavolàta 100% turned me around on them. We will absolutely go back and recommend them to friends and guests in our hotels."
"I’ve got to give an updated review as I went again: I came for free rigatoni day, initially I just wanted that fabulous salad. Again, I had phenomenal service. Again, they were playing terrible dad rock at a fancy(ish) Italian restaurant. AGAIN, everything was so salty. This time even the salad was immensely salty, still pretty delicious so I’m not gonna take off an overall star. Last time I had ESR rigatoni it was phenomenal. This time it was salted to all get out. I expected a bit lower quality rigatoni on free rigatoni day but it was early and no one was really there so it’s no excuse. My theory is the salt level is tasted before they douse everything with pecorino which is a pretty salty cheese. I really love that salad so I’ll likely go back. Original SRW Review: Been meaning to come here for a long time as I’m a fan of other Ethan Stowell Restaurants and I believe they normally do a great job. Came for restaurant week, late-ish on a Monday. Not busy at all, kitchen wasn’t preparing a single item when we walked in. We were greeted promptly and sat. The music playing reminded me of a bowling alley or a grocery store, not an Italian restaurant where you’re paying $20-$30 for an entree. SRW menu was fun. Appetizers were mostly incredible. The Tavolata salad was superb and I’ll be back. Tried the beets which were also delicious and flavorful as well as the burrata which was somewhat of a let down, cheese was fine but what came with it was a bit odd (mustard and collard greens?). For entrees I had the short rib which was INCREDIBLY salty almost to a point of being inedible. The piece of meat was cooked almost spot on if not a bit over but every single element on the plate had far too much salt. I thought perhaps it was just the top of the meat but it was salty through and through. The ricotta ravioli was the favorite of the night with a nice complex sauce and a healthy portion. We also tried the potato gnocchi which was delicious when eaten with a perfect bite of gnocchi, sauce and cheese but pretty dry overall. I’d give em another go as restaurant week isn’t always the best display of what a restaurant can do but for the overall price I expected a bit more."
"Fantastic food. My employer decided (for the second year) to eat here (last year was at the other location) and I couldn't be happier with that decision. The staff was friendly and attentive. Food quality is second to none. Each dish was made with care - I'm allergic to onions, and they were able to provide dishes for me without any onions, even when the dish normally had them. Typically every dish with onions in it is built AROUND the onion as a foundation, so the fact they were able to produce tasty food with delicate balance, and robust flavors really speaks to their skill as artists. My favorite dish of the night ended up being a salad with pistachios in it, which seemed like a very odd choice when it landed on the table, but I was sold on the first taste. Highly recommend you try this place out."
"Ordered gnocchi Romana, rigatoni, pappardelle, crispy pig ears, and salami board. Came here because oink across the street was too packed. I usually filter out 3 star restaurants so this wouldn't show up, but I'm glad I came here. Not sure why reviews are so low, maybe I don't understand Italian food, but the food was quite good. The pappardelle was the best dish. The rigatoni was good but wayyyyyy too salty. Dishes were all a little spicy so small kids may have a hard time."
"The food was solid. I liked the roasted beets and tomato appetizer. It was refreshing and crisp. Then it went downhill from there. My ravioli dish was cold on one part of the plate and warm on the other. It was also a bit salty. The foie gras appetizer came after we finished our entrees and it was very salty- a tell tale sign of mediocre quality. The dessert cake was a bit hard and felt like something you could buy at a grocery store pastry section. Our server was friendly and apologetic, however, given the food came out of order and very late, and we had to ask for our water glass to be filled each time- I can't honestly give it more than two stars. We came after the dinner rush."
