Reviews of AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care
"Had a transmission fail in a “new to me” car that I had only owned for 1 month. Took the car to AAMCO and they looked it over for free, told me all the issues they found, and provided options on how to proceed. I had a new transmission and water pump installed and could not be happier! Excellent service and one of the best warranty programs I have seen from a repair shop. Great guys to work with."
"Not horrible but not my best automotive shop experience. I felt like my vehicle didn't get as careful diagnostic attention as it could have received.. I was ultimately told to take the vehicle to another shop and get things handled on the computer side. The truck was towed to Aamco after not being able to drive without dying at a stop, it kept pulling when the brakes were on and it wouldn't throttle up in reverse. After being told to take it elsewhere, I played with the 4 wheel drive selector and got it to run much better. When I drove it around the block they didn't seem interested in looking into why it was pulling , but much less than before. I actually was able to drive it home on the freeway in traffic. I just felt like they didn't want the headache of my work even though it's clear that it's atleast partially transmission related . On the positive side , the diagnostic they did do was free, they did refer me to a specialist in computer diagnostic and they were friendly to my small dog while at their shop."
"Edited to add: for additional evidence why you should never send your car here, see response to my review from manager. Terrible service, shoddy worksmanship, and bait and switch tactics. If you want to get bait and switched, come here. My husband and I took my 70 year old mother's truck to this shop after it was slipping in between 2nd and 3rd gears. After they reported finding metal shavings in the transmission fluid, my husband asked for quotes for both a rebuilt transmission and a remanufactured transmission. After reviewing both pricing options with my mother, we ultimately decided on going for the cheaper options (rebuilt) as it is not her primary vehicle and is not driven more than a few times a year. My husband communicated this to Kimly Phan who indicated he understood. Fast forward to a couple of weeks later and we get a call from Kimly that the bill is 1200 more than we had previously agreed to. He put in a remanufactured transmission instead of the rebuilt transmission. Kimly admitted he misunderstood but was adamant that my husband agreed to the higher charge. My husband thought he was agreeing to charges for a rebuilt transmission, and corrected Kimly when he said remanufactured, but nevertheless, a remanufactured was installed. Kimly told my husband that without paying the price for the remanufactured, we could not get the car back, so my mother paid the higher fee. Kimly was not open to trying to meet in the middle or come up with some compromise when he was very clearly in the wrong. After having the work done, we were informed that we would need to return in 10 days/150 miles to check on everything to stay in compliance with the warranty. My husband brought the car back and we were turned away because they were too busy. They told us to come back some other time and that that would not impact the validity of the warranty. Fast forward four months and the servo ring has fallen out and the car is leaking transmission fluid like a sieve. Kimly would not cover the repair and offered to pay half instead and if not, then to come and pick up the undrivable vehicle. Still never found out how much that repair would cost. He stated all conversations and in person interactions were recorded (without our knowledge) and when we requested this and anything my husband had signed, he refused to give it to me until after I brought up that he legally has to provide us with anything we signed. This company does not communicate, they are purposeful at making all communications cloudy and vague and do shoddy work. There is no customer service, they do not care about repeat customers. They don't care if customers never want to come back again. Well, they got their money, didn't they? Stay away from this place. Filing a complaint with the Washington State Attorney General's office. From the looks of all the negative reviews, our experience is not an isolated incident. Hopefully this company will be held accountable by somebody."
"I'm from Vancouver and was in Lakewood for business. I was using a state car that I was unfamiliar with. I had it set in manual mode rather than automatic. I stopped in and Kimly was SO helpful and calm. He and his technicians saved my day! They looked at the car for no charge, determined the issue (user error) and gave me peace of mind to get home. I would 1000% recommend AAMCO for thier helpful, competent and honest service! Thank you to them so much!"
