"Well after a little hesitation to write a review , I decided to go ahead because the experiences were worse than normal expectations. So I live close by and happy to see a new dental office opened in the neighborhood. So I wanted to support the business. I didn't have insurance , just a dental discount plan. As a new client I got all the xrays done. I ended up to have 3 fillings and a teeth cleaning. I had noticed that the dentist, I think dr Todd, was very busy and in hurry doing the work. I knew he was the only dentist in the office and having 3 or 4 clients on the chairs waiting for his services. I could feel the job, fillings, were done in a quick condition. The visit costed me around $600 out of pocket ( yes after the discount plan, which is something kinda murky). But I did trust the office and not much I could do. About 8 mths later, 2 or 3 of the fillings fell off! I called the office and complained. We scheduled another appointment and this time dr Todd did a decent job, I think, by the amount of time he spent. Quite different with the last time. So fast forward, to dec of 2023, I got a horrible toothache. I called the office to make an appointment. And yes I was willing to give the office another chance. They told me they don't have my history because they have a new system! Strange! So you just lost all 4 or 5 yrs of clients' files ? Anyway I came in and asked them , since I didn't have any insurance , do they have any discount plan? They did and i bought the plan, about $175? Well the receptionist was not that receptive , a bit of snarky, impatient attitude, a little bit of nasty side when I asked a few questions about the plan. An attitude like you don't like it then go away attitude! It was a turn off, unprofessional attitude that I didn't expect in this new, nice dental office for sure! So I went ahead go through the process. The time came when the dentist, not sure was dr Todd or not , came in and I told the toothache problem. He did some tricks to figure out which tooth. And I would need a root canal. And came to the front desk to pay my bill, which was totally covered by the just bought plan. And that was a good part, but bad part was still the front desk receptionist lady with an attitude when I asked a question about whether my new discount plan would cover any part of root canal? Nope ! And the plan is accepted by thousand of dental offices, but root canal not part of the membership. She told me with a cocky, arrogance attitude. I almost gave her a finger but there were a few clients in the waiting room. Also a prescription drug was subscribed to Walgreens down the street. I waited for 4 days and the pharmacy told me nope, nothing came with my name. So I called the office next day, the same receptionist lady told let her check and would call me back. No one ever called back and told me what was going on? Until 2 days later the Walgreens called. It was disrespectful! No apologies nor a call back! So I don't feel good about this office and went to buy a dental insurance from Kaiser Permanente instead. The dentist and the team at the KP are amazing and also told me my upper way back end tooth( not the tooth that ached) are severely damaged and needed a fix asap. The problem is 3 weeks ago at the Portland Modern dentistry, the dentist didn't see that huge problem. My lesson is if your instinct tells you something is not right , either at doctor office or dental office, bail and change to different doctors or offices. When it comes to medical or dental in this case, trust your instincts because that's all you have! You don't know anything about medical and have to totally trust your doctors. If the dentist at this office did a careful job, my back end tooth would have saved! Unfortunately the damage has been done. Another lesson is go to an old office that has been around for quite around, so they don't have much of financial pressure to pay all of those new equipments. So they wouldn't book so many clients at the same time , therefore lack a sufficient time to care for you!"

"I’ve been happy with my experience at Portland modern dentistry so far, Dr Newton has improved the health of my mouth greatly and treated me well. My gums are far healthier than when I first went in and through the course of my treatments thus far I’ve been made to feel comfortable and like I’m receiving legitimate care that is in the best interest of the longevity of my dental health. I skipped the dentist for 4 years or so, so my mouth has been tender in the past few months from the extensive-cleaning and crown-work it’s needed but this is why you need to not miss cleanings each year, don’t skip out on getting to the dentist! I got a crown the first day I went in after my initial full exam was completed, as well as a full scaling and root planing treatment done completed between two appointments in the following weeks. Getting work done and realizing how important dental health is to maintain has also helped me to quit smoking cigarettes since my first appointment, after 15 years or so of smoking I’m now 63 days off of tobacco/nicotine/smoking, thumbs up to takin care of yer teeth. Also the front desk staff are very nice and the dental assistants I’ve had X-ray me/help with procedures were all very nice too."

"It was pretty busy but the staff moved things along very efficiently while still being personable. Dr. Todd was great at explaining things and didn't make it seem like he was 'upselling' anything. Teeth felt nice and clean afterwards!"

"Some time later, I’ve taken away a star. Dr Todd is still pleasant once you’re seated, although and has a steady and gentle hand, but you will wait a long time past when your appointment is scheduled every time. Last time it was two hours. Not joking. I was very worried about infection after a procedure and sent a photo in the morning. Which they said they received right away. I called back two times to see if it was looking like something needed to be done and they said they’d get back to me. The. At 2:30 they said to come in at 4. I’m here now and have been waiting 30 minutes. Oh and the part where they used to put me in a room with natural light is no more. Good for them that they’ve grown, but bad for patients. Original post - I first went for the coupon and kept coming because it’s a really pleasant dentist experience. All the folks there are super kind and remember details like that I have a light sensitivity and prefer a natural daylight room. Dr Todd has a great manner (and sense of humor) and does great work. The price is reasonable. I definitely recommend Portland Modern Dentistry."
