"My husband went into the Port Townsend store with the part number off of the steering cable he needed. They decided to order a steering cable with different number saying it was apples to apples. Got home and it was the wrong part the rack and pinion on it did not match the part they ordered. So called and gave them the info again letting them know it was incorrect. They said they would look into it and get back to him after a few days called them again nothing had been ordered they were trying to figure out the part number, which once again we gave them. At this point we could have ordered online and already had but we wanted to support local. Called again and they were still perplexed as to how to order it. Husband went in and said just give me my money back. It is truly sad that they have completely unqualified people with no experience ordering parts for boats and dragging things out instead of just saying I ONT KNOW WHAT THE HELL I AM DOING. I am just a warm body filling space and getting paid to be provided bad service. Will not be going the or recommending this store to anyone. Will order my part online from someone else."

"West Marine is where you go for last minute buys. If you can afford to wait a day or two, then order it online for much cheaper, you may even find it cheaper at another local chandlery. West Marine is well known for their high prices. Update: Every month they seem to offer a very nice deal for something, for example March-April this year, they are offering Buy One Get One Free on winches, which is a smokin deal -that is if you need two winches..."

"Glorified clothing store for snobby sailors. I really hate that I have to rely on worst marine sometimes, but when you need something right away and you are willing to pay the price, like $7 for 4 cotter pins that are made in china, I feel like I was robbed at the point of a cotter pin. Admirals in the shipyard is a much better choice, they just didn't have the size I needed in stock today."

"Not a great store, in my opinion, but the only place in the area that carries a lot of the RV and Boat stuff. I found the staff less than helpful and the store leaves a lot to be desired aesthetically. I bought some electrical wires for hooking up my solar panels and they costed at least three times more than on Amazon. A rip-off! Still, a small town with not much else around, what are you going to do? I would go back if I had to but I would prefer to check out Amazon first and see if I can find what I need there."

"It's a good place to go for a pretty broad selection of boat outfitting and repair kit -- with significant caveats. The staff wasn't very knowledgeable and they each seemed out of their element for different reasons. One openly commented about hating this part of his job when I asked a question, another stood around idly the whole time I was there, and a third just seemed fed up with the other two. The pricing on the items I bought was about double what it is available for on Amazon, but I needed it today. Would I go back? Yes, but only in a pinch and not for the service or pricing."
