"I wanted to like this place so badly but unfortunately I did not. Being from the south (nashville tn) Soul Food is my fave so I was really excited to eat here. The customer service is amazing and the restaurant is clean and welcoming. I got fried chicken wings, catfish, mac and cheese, candied yams and corn bread. The wings taste like old grease with a bit of burn, I did like the size of the wings though. The catfish was okay, the tarter and hot sauce helped it but they were a bit thin. Candied Yams were literally perfect, no complaints. The corn bread was gritty and the Mac was not good at all. Thank you for having great customer service, off that alone I'd come back to try more items. If you're reading this follow eatwithjustinm on TikTok YouTube and IG"
"My sister and I visited here for the first time a few days ago, and we are both still talking about our experience. We had the fried pork chop dinner and the catfish dinner. Sides were collard greens, Mac n cheese, candied yams, and fried okra. We also ordered fried shrimp and two whole chicken wings. All of the food was amazing, but the stars were definitely the fried porkchops and catfish. Both fried and seasoned to perfection, while still being tender. We are from the south and our expectations going in were that it would be okay, but this is the first place to make me feel like I was back home eating. The sides were all really good as well. Not one complaint from us, and everyone was so nice. We will definitely be going back."
"Warm, welcoming staff, great ambiance. Many people had ordered take out, it's a small but cozy space. The red beans and rice are wonderful, the fried okra is perfect, collard greens to die for... The red snapper was excellent! They have an impressive hot sauce selection. I will definitely be back to sample more!"
"The artists that are the cooks of this restaurant have gifted our area with the absolute, hands down, best catfish outside of the South (and really, may just be the best period.) I grew up eating fried catfish almost weekly and since moving to the PNW, have struggled to find a place that *really* gets it. Huge, thick pieces of fish, glistening with juice, and perfectly seasoned breading. And unlike other places where they do one dish amazingly and just okay on others, DND has somehow achieved the impossible by making equally exquisite fried chicken wings. And don’t get me started on those collard greens! I could eat a bathtub full of them! It breaks my heart that we discovered this gem during a trip (which we rearranged so we could visit this place twice before leaving), and we live almost three hours away, so now we’ll have to either pine away with the memories of how utterly delicious this place is or just ya know, do a six hour journey… which may just happen. If you’re in Tacoma and you’re not eating here as often as your wallet allows, you’re missing out. Really missing out. Eat there, for me."
"First off this is the second soul food place I've been to out here in Tacoma. Let's start with the fried chicken wings good Seasoning but Not crispy enough for me. OK now get into the greens they Ok but need more meat. The yams were way over powering with nutmeg tossed them right out. On to the peach cobbler That I will say is good but please put down the NUTMEG. Can't forget about the cornbread we'll its just that dry ol cornbread. For the money at $30.00 for one person SORRY BUT ILL PASS Thank you..."
