"I’d rank this dead last out of the 8 DFAC’s I’ve been able to *consistently* eat at. The service is fine and the food quality is just acceptable. The main thing that pulls it to dead last in my mind is that Soldiers can only choose one “protein”. I actually laughed when I was told that in line. You cannot say that physical fitness is a high priority if nutritional quality is an after thought. That’s what this DFAC feels like, “an after thought”. Generally I gauge how good a DFAC is by how embarrassed I’d be to bring friends or family there, if for some reason I had to. This one would be the most embarrassing. I think what makes it even more funny is that there are other DFACs on JBLM that are above and beyond. How is this one so far behind? Anyway 4/10!"
"My local dfac(courage inn) was closed so I went to ghost for the first time today. Came in around noon on a Saturday for brunch, not impressed. No forks, terrible selection, stale atmosphere. If I was still in basic, I would rather not eat than come here. The PV2 that served me the the 4 tablespoons of eggs and inedible salmon seemed enthusiastic about her job at least. As I navigated my way through the gaggle of civilian cleaning employees that seemed to just be standing around mindlessly wiping down everything that I was trying to get to(the dried out oatmeal, unappetizing iceberg lettuce, milk cooler with no milk in it, juice machine with only 1 of 4 juices stocked), I couldn’t help but think why the military has a retention problem. They force us to pay for food whether we eat it or not, and this is what we get. Courage inn by comparison is leagues above Ghost and I would have no problem sending my BAS there. I wouldn’t subject POWs to Ghost."
"This is one of the better dining facilities I have experienced so far. Food is fresh and always more to come. The portions are solid! Drink selection is good."
"This dfac ranks as one of the best run I have seen in 14 years. Their staff works hard to make the food appetizing. Their major issue is running out of food and utensils/plates."
"The food actually isn't bad at all. The service, however, is worst than anything compared to Courage Inn or Lancer DFACs. I know complaining here wouldnt be heard much because they dont care anyway, I need to complain on ICE for them to really care. But I am going to let that slide and complain here. One of the E5 Sgt, specifically the female Asian Sgt (apologize for race mentioning, only to specify), is super rude and such a toxic to other younger junior enlisted there. And you can also definitely see how she really hates her job. Her aura really makes other junior enlisted around her feel scared and negative, resulting a lower quality of service. As an officer from another BDE who came by in the morning trying the food, I was genuinely sad at how these junior enlisted felt so pressured and yelled at by her. At some point when they were about to close, there were still a lot of food on the platter and one of the junior enlisted was yelled at for giving extra to other soldiers lining up. The fact that most of these food will be thrown away anyway, not allowing soldiers to get some extra or being a little more generous is really disappointing and wasteful because at the end of the day, all these food will be thrown away. I know it is with blood, sweat and probably tears you have to deal with cooking inside the kitchen and you want everyone to equally get the same amount without having to cook often, because technically saying, the less you give to soldiers, the less you have to cook, which promotes laziness and less morale to junior enlisted and even soldiers who come to eat. However, this is not how you increase the quality of DFAC and attract more soldiers to come because they are excited and "want" to be there. Like there is no spirit in serving these food when I see the servers at their feet. I know pay isn't great, you have to wake up so early and go home really late, but believe in yourself. This is what you chose, come back to the very reason why you chose this work and put all your passion to serve everyone with smile and greetings. You will feel different, trust me. How would I know? Before I joined the Army, I was a waiter, and believe me, I know how it feels. No matter what DFAC, food is food and theres no such trash food until you waste it and throw them all away. Ghost had quality in both food wise and service, but if this keeps going on, it's going to follow the next generation of junior enlisted cooks and affect dfac and the soldiers coming over to eat. Please consider to have more self control and stop yelling when it is not needed. You can be a great leader or NCO without instilling fear or yells. It's an era where leadership needs to be strict, direct and strong yet listen, understand and composed in manner and interaction."
