Reviews of Nell Thorn
"Couple of weeks ago my fiancé and I had a very large, light , lunch outside alongside the channel. It was a magnificent, sunny, Fall day. We ordered bread, truffle fries, Caesar salad, he had a Pilsner, and, I had a cocktail named, Olivia. When ordering the salad, I asked specifically if, they used “white” anchovies? I was told, “yes, we do”. (Being the price point the menu was at I figured they did , yet I do not assume, anything!) I then proceeded to ask if I may have a “couple” of anchovies on the side. Meaning, 2! As white anchovies are packaged nicely , they are quite different, and large. When the salad for 2 came, it was cut into pieces fit for the mouth of Paul Bunyan. The anchovies we piled into a ramekin from which I lost count of how many were in their. And they weren’t white anchovies! Not only did I have to cut my salad, I found the very bottom of the romaine head still left amongst our food, instead of in the trash can! If that wasn’t annoying enough? We had to ask our server a half a dozen time for more butter for our bread. When clearly she wasn’t that busy because we saw her many times standing around chatting to other guest’s. When she finally got around to taking care of us she blamed another co worker for not bringing us the butter. If, I myself had not been in this same industry before, then I would not have any expectations. But I know exactly what can be reasonably expected. And our entire experience was not only an unnecessary disaster but obviously appallingly apathetic on the part of the entire staff. For that I will never return. We had planned on requesting a bid for a wedding reception as my daughter had her’s there. What in the World has happened to this place? How very sad indeed."
"We loved this place! Our server was exceptional, the atmosphere and ambience were completely charming and the food was absolutely perfect! This is a farm to table restaurant, and the pride in serving what the local farmers grow with love is evident in the way they have curated their dishes. We split an amazing Caesar Salad, with one of the best in house made dressings I have had, and lots of well-aged parmesan. We got the Nell's Bread, and 'wow'!!, it was incredible, the perfect soft, doughy inside and chewy outer crust. For our entree we chose the seasonal vegetable pasta, with in house made pasta (melts in your mouth!!), loads of fresh, in season veggies and a luscious pesto lemon cream sauce that we were blown away by- so darn good!!!!! We finished our meal with a classic Creme Brule with a candied orange peel topping. It was creamy, light and bursting with vanilla and orange flavors. We just loved it all. They have a great wine selection and quality cocktails as well. We sat by the windows, watched the glorious sunset and admired the yachts at the dock. A perfect meal, at the perfect place with the perfect server. Just go, and thank me later."
"Everything was 5/5 - the food was so tasty, we had fried oysters, caesar salad, dungeness crab pasta, and the bouillabaisse. The entrees were SO good we want to go back already. Service was very friendly and efficient. Ample parking in the parking lot out front and on the street. We will be back!"
"If I could dream up the perfect destination restaurant, it'd be this place. All of my favorite special occasion food in one menu. Warm, elegant, unpretentious atmosphere. Priceless views of La Connor channel. Gracious, intuitive service. The Penn Cove mussels, raw & fried oysters, beet orange arugula salad, bouillabaisse w/rouille, duck breast in demi-glace w/luscious tagliatelle, Dungeness crab spaghetti, crème brûlée, Valhrona chocolate mousse... Amazing!"
