"Visiting Big Bay Town Park on Madeline Island was an experience that surpassed all my expectations. This park is a true hidden gem, offering a serene escape into nature's embrace. The park's natural beauty is simply breathtaking. From the lush, green trails that are perfect for a peaceful hike, to the stunning views of the lake, every corner of Big Bay Town Park is a testament to the beauty of the great outdoors. The tranquility of the area is something that photos just can't capture fully; it’s something you have to experience in person. One of the highlights for me was the sandy beach. It's a perfect spot for a relaxing day by the water, whether you're looking to swim, sunbathe, or just enjoy the scenic views. The water was crystal clear and refreshing, providing a delightful respite on a sunny day. The park is also well-maintained, which speaks volumes about the dedication of the staff and the community to preserving this natural wonder. The facilities, including picnic areas and restrooms, were clean and convenient, adding to the overall positive experience. For those who love camping, the park offers a great camping experience with well-spaced sites that allow for privacy while still being close to the natural attractions of the area. In conclusion, Big Bay Town Park is a must-visit for anyone looking for a peaceful retreat into nature, a family outing, or just a day away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It’s a place that offers a blend of relaxation, adventure, and scenic beauty. I can't wait to return and explore more of what this beautiful park has to offer."
"Great camping for out of the city quiet vacation time. The camping host was friendly and helpful. Camping place, showers and toilet was clean. If you expect rain choose wisely the place for tent. Wonderful beach and walking from the camping to the state park. And be prepared to listen to the squirells ;) Always remember we are the guest on this planet so leave no trace - carry out what you carry in."
"I love big bay town park! The stairway to the beach is so beautiful! The beach is clean and the sand is soft …with lots of pretty polished stones to beach comb over. There’s also a nice board wall that goes all the way into the big bay state park…it’s pretty as it winds its way through the pines growing on the sand spit that divides the lagoon from the lake proper. At the top of the bluff there is a very nice group event Shelter with barbecues and such Parking is easy and the bathrooms are fine. The campsites are pretty nice, but most don’t seem large enough for rv’s"
"What a wonderful park!!! Anyone who says the bathrooms stink used the pit toilets by the beach, not the flush bathrooms around the office and campsites, which are very clean. People have been coming here to camp for over 40 years! So make reservations! Sites are competitive, but you can now book 600 days in advance! Bring cash for firewood and showers, The park has a wood barn, and it is $5 *cash only* for a load. Showers are quarter operated. There is a change machine on site. $2 will get you a 4 minute shower. Also, the park is incredibly dog friendly. They ask that you leash and clean up after your dog and not let your pooch be a nuisance to your neighbors. Fair enough! Quiet time is 10pm. Be prepared to enjoy the prettiest beach in the Midwest and a hidden gem. (Beaches are golden and sandy!) Check ferry prices before toting your RV over, as it is pricey. The park is not affiliated with any boat rentals. If you want to rent a kayak or paddleboard, check out Adventure Vacations. Bog Lake outfitters also has self service canoes for rent at the beach, so bring cash for that as well. The lagoon is its own entire ecosystem and fascinating in its own right. The town park is free to visit, and they happily take donations but do not charge admission. This island is the spiritual homeplace of the Objibwe and you can feel the magic once you glimpse the lagoon and walk the boardwalk, if you are quiet enough to listen."
"The park was pretty awesome. I hike a lot and it was unique! Fun to see Lake Superior on one side and the Lagoon (which is practically it’s own little lake) on the other side. Quiet. Nice walking path. Not a ton to adventure off path wise in the State Park area but it was quite nice!"
