Reviews of Whistle Stop Campground
"We have gone to Whistle Stop Campground for years with a group of friends (multiple adults and kids). Things have changed at the campground. The staff at a campground is vital to the overall camping experience. The onsite staff at Whistle Stop is horrible. They do not act like they are in the service industry. The manager on site went out of her way to harass our group multiple times and ruined our stay. We camp frequently and have never experienced anything like this. Because of that we will not return. I would caution others before they consider booking with Whistle Stop, as I would not want anyone else to ever have to experience this type of harassment/horrible service and have their trip ruined. Pros: -Small campground -The nighttime blinky train that is run by Little America is awesome! Cons: -Overall they have not been keeping up with the quality of the amenities at the campground. -Less floating water toys -Bikes that they promote as being available for use: There were maybe 3 that were available that were usable. The rest had broken parts, flat tires, and were retired to the “bike graveyard” in hopes that they would be fixed for the next year. If you do get to use one of the working ones the manager will be over to yell at the kids using it multiple times. -They sell items in the general store (snap/pop fireworks) that the staff then yells at you for using (they state they are not for use at the campground-you should take them home to use them). -Cannot drink in the pond. In WI mostly all campgrounds allow you to drink/hold your drink while you are in the water (no glass bottles); however, this campground does not allow you to have any drinks in your hand if you are touching the water in the pond. -They did not run the weekend activities that were listed in the activity flyer. -Little shade (the campground is set in a field type area)"
"We had a horrible experience in the cabin that sleeps 6. We had no working electricity in the bathroom. They added a $100 security deposit without being told and when asked about price, they finally said that’s what it was for. I had to email them weeks after checkout to ensure I received my $100 back. The staff was not very friendly and requested our sleeping toddlers to get out of the car to receive their wristbands. The cabin was not very clean and activities were sparse. For over $200/night, I expected more. We will not be returning."
"Stayed the weekend. The campground was nice and clean. Store well stocked. The pond, toys and surrounding activities well maintained. We loved the scenic train ride and had fun at Little Amerikka. Not much for shade, but overall a great place."
"We love this campground in the past.stayed their this July and the elderly women manager kept telling my grandson who is 8 he can not leave the campgrounds bike at our site or by the pond when their as other people may want to use it. We had him take it back and it sat by the office For 3 hrs as he was in the water and no one checked it out. So he checked out. When he was in our camper and I was outside the camper the woman told me it can’t stay here it has to be in us. I told her my grandson was inside camper using the restrooms and she replied back sarcastically Really. And I said yes really and she went on her way. Also at night train ride which you pay for as I did she checked for wrist bands which we ha. Then a group of 10 got on the train ahead of us with no wrist bands on and when she came back to us my wife informed her the group of 10 got on and had to wrist band and the train started to leave and she then asked to see bands and the one adult said sorry we don’t have them and said he will pay when returning. Well the store was closed and she was not there and the group of 10 rode freeThats not right everyone else paid. The other staff were great. That’s the reason for the 3 rating"
"I have been here a number of years and it is starting to go downhill. My family still loves the train to the amusement park but they need to hire more people and get things to where they used to be. Needs TLC. There is no one thing but no inflatables in the water, bikes not working, no free rides at night like they used to, dunk tank broken, cancelled weekend events that they advertised, very limited staff to help but the ones there do their best. Just not worth the price anymore, they will probably do okay this summer because of good experiences in the past but may not be there in the future if issues are not addressed."
