Reviews of BluePearl Pet Hospital
"Avoid unless truly desperate to blow a bunch of money. Service sucked, communication sucked, and they put my dog’s life in danger by delaying care and refusing to provide medication. Took our dog here after he ingested rat poison. Called them to see if we can get guidance before bringing dog down the one hour drive. First, they refuse to talk to you until you call animal poison control and pay poison control the $100 surcharge for their advice. So we’re already $100 in the hole before stepping foot in the building. Upon bringing our dog in, they took him to the back right away and told us to wait up front. They told us an assessment alone was $200. So now we’re $300 in the hole! 30 minutes later, they asked us if it was okay to give medication to induce vomiting. Of course we agreed. That was the last we heard from them for another 2.5 hours. We went for lunch. Waited almost another hour after returning to get ann update. We kept asking the three front desk staff for an update, to which they responded that there was no update. We just wanted to know what the team was doing. With today’s technology, it is impossible that they couldn’t tell on their computers what was happening to our dog. The two gals were too busy gossiping and the other one was staring off into space to care about a family’s concern, I guess. The vet FINALLY came out around 4:00 (we got there at 11:00) and informed us that she would like to perform labs (also told us after this that she wanted follow up labs after one week), give vitamin K and charcoal, and chest xray in case the hydrogen peroxide we gave him at home caused him to aspirate. I asked what were his symptoms to make them think that he aspirated. “He’s groggy from the morphine we gave him to make him throw up.” So no signs of distress or labored breathing means he’s aspirating?! Unbelievable. My husband asked how much the labs were: $800!? For simple and common labs?! For a basic metabolic panel and a complete blood count, this should not have been $800. We then asked if the treatment plan of vitamin K and charcoal would have changed despite the lab results, to which we were told no. So then what is the point of lab work if the treatment plan was the same?! They then wanted to provide IV hydration. My husband asked why they couldn’t just give water in a bowl - they told us they can’t force the dog to drink water. It was evident to us that they were trying to just take any money they could off us. They came back a couple more times to see if we changed our minds and try to convince us some more to take their advice. We asked for the vitamin k and charcoal only, to which we were told that the vet was uncomfortable administering medications without lab work (even though they said the treatment plan would have been the same regardless of lab results). We then asked for a prescription for the vitamin k and charcoal. They said that it would be rarely easy to find vitamin k at the pharmacy. Dead wrong. The script that was given to us was 5mg tablets, which are not sold at retail pharmacies, both OTC and through script. Either their vets are severely unaware of vitamin k dosages in retail pharmacies or they were so annoyed that people were able to see through their nonsense that they just screwed us over by sending us on a wild goose chase to five pharmacies. Back to my story. After we refused further care, we expected to just get our dog back. Waited longer before our dog came back happy as all hell to see us. But “he is drowsy from the morphine” Poor fella was probably just locked in a kennel for hours thinking we left him. My husband gave him some water from their tap and he drank so much of that water. Note that they wanted to give IV hydration because they couldn’t force the dog to drink water. They wouldn’t give us our bill or our prescription and they made us wait longer for that. If I had known that the prescription would be useless I would have just left and let them charge my card that they made us put a deposit on when we left for lunch. Ridiculous."
"Dr. Martel is in the right business. I have seen her twice for semi-emergent issues with my sweet little rat, Erwin. She is always kind, compassionate, and super thorough. My little guy is three and a half years old, so unfortunately his time is limited. When the time does come to say goodbye, I will be calling her to assist in his crossing the rainbow bridge. Even though a lot of people will say "It's just a rat.", I have never felt that from Dr. Martel. Quite the opposite. I can tell she has the utmost respect for my pet, which means everything to me. I very highly recommend her for your exotic pets! (The name of the Vet Tech is slipping my mind at the moment, but she is also super sweet and kind. Just simply amazing!)"
"I really cannot say enough good things about the folks at BluePearl. Our first experience was with an urgent medical concern for our dog. Their staff was courteous and thorough, and were clear about standard fees, as well as anticipated costs. The vet was excellent, taking the time to walk me through everything she thought was going on. Our second experience was working with their rehab team following our dog's injury. Dr. Luginbill and her team were amazing! The first consultation was extensive and incredibly helpful for setting the path for the therapy course. We had so many questions, and Dr. Luginbill answered every one. After each rehab session, we recieved personalized emailed instructions and videos of our dog doing the specific exercises. Cost was very reasonable given the extent of what they were doing. Our dog is recovering nicely now and I would not hesitate to return to BluePearl for future concerns. (photo included is one they sent us of her receiving a laser treatment :))"
"The exotics team and front desk staff are the most caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable people that I have ever met. The front desk took my concerns seriously, and I know they fought to help me get an appointment. About two months ago, Dr. Mueller saw my dying bearded dragon, Buzz, during her lunch break, making time for me and showing nothing but the upmost respect and kindness. She went out of her way to call me on her day off with results and to answer any questions. Dr. Mueller and her AMAZING staff have been readily available through every step of the process (shoutout to Stephanie and Bridget!). Two months later, I am here for a recheck and he has made almost a complete 180. They saved his life and I could never thank them enough for this. Thank you to everyone that works at BluePearl Glendale, I couldn’t be more grateful for everything you all have done to save Buzz!"
"I was not a regular customer of BluePearl, but had an emergency on a Sunday afternoon. I called them and while they said they normally don’t take any new customers on emergency they told me to bring in my dog. The staff was spectacular. All of them were very understanding and kind to me as I dealt with the most difficult time to have with any pet. I am extremely grateful that the staff put the welfare of my pet above any potential sales. The position I was in that night they could have massively taken advantage of my love for my boy, but they instead told me the unadulterated truth and help me make a very painful decision. From now on I will be bringing all my pets to this clinic. Great staff."
