Banfield Pet Hospital

"In the end of July 2023, I had taken my dog to Banfield pet hospital in maplewood for a routine checkup and vet appt. During this time they offered to shave areas of my dog as he’s prone to hair matting, which I was initially thankful for; in retrospect, this decision has spiraled into an almost year long skin infection and irritation. The shaving they performed was botched and hacked up my dogs skin, resulting in the creation of a skin infection which has now lead into months long skin irritation and discomfort. Banfield failed to take responsibility for their actions and from there refused to appropriately treat and care for my dog unless we brought him back to their facility, which I was uncomfortable doing. We asked multiple rounds of questions regarding my pets care over the phone with assurance they would call back and assist which never occurred, even after repeated follow up. I sent the below photos to show proof of their “care” to which there was no acknowledgement of their actions. Since then his skin is incredibly infected and now his fur is falling out. Overall incredibly displeased and disappointed in the care given to my pet and I would warn others to consider another veterinarian or Banfield location."

"It takes a long time to get an actual person to talk to. This is the last time that I will receive medicine for my dog. I shouldn't have to check my bag before leaving to make sure of the contents and see if it's expired. I caught it once. I was told if the medicine leaves their facility, it can't be returned. This is whether it wasn't approved or expired. Check the dates closely. Unfortunately I didn't and was charged for all 3 meds and I'm not working. The staff is friendly but that's bit worth me logging money I really don't have."

"Zero stars. Appointments are drop off. My cat had an appt to check his thyroid. He sat in his carrier from 8am until I called at 4pm for an update. Dr called back Only to be told that he’s dying and needs to be put to sleep. Terrible service with these drop off appointments. Horribly small area, dogs barking, tons of people. You can’t even talk to the drs, they call you. I will NEVER take my sick pet to this location again."

"i hate bringing my pup to this banfield, i have good doctors every now and then but besides that they’re never transparent enough with me, i don’t like their new policy where i can’t go back with my dog to see what’s being done with him, i scheduled an appointment for a teeth cleaning a while ago and i brought him in to have another one and they said they have no records that he ever got a teeth cleaning, this would be his first time and it’s gonna be 200 dollars???? absolutely ridiculous. i hate that every time i go it’s a different story and i’m being charged for something every single time even though my dog is on a wellness plan. it just seems like they say this will get covered but then im paying a cost anyway and it’s not transparent at all."

"I had a horrible experience with this hospital today. I have had their wellness plan for more than 10 years. They called me to schedule my free "included in my wellness plan" dental cleaning appointment (it is done while they put the dog under anesthesia). I brought my dog for a routine dental cleaning appointment, after a couple of hours, the doctor called me and said that the blood work looked good, but he had concerns about his heard and recommended to see the cardiologist to avoid the heart complications. I agreed, dental cleaning was cancelled. I came to pick up my dog and they told me that I needed to pay 200 dollars extra for blood test which was included for my his dental cleaning appointment( when the dog goes under anesthesia), but since the dog didn't go under anesthesia, blood test was not covered. Allison (the girl from front office) could not explain why, she was just repeating like robot: blood test is included in your dental cleaning appointment, but since your dog didn't go under anesthesia, you need to pay 200 dollars. 1) If blood work is not covered without anesthesia, why did they even do a blood test, if they saw that the dog had a heart issue? 2) My dog has two free "included in my wellness plan" annual visits, one with anesthesia and one and one without anesthesia, so why they could not switch this visit to visit with no anesthesia, so i don't need to pay extra 200 dolls. I have the feeling that this clinic purposely made the patient to pay more money! When I asked to talk to the administrator, guess what?? Administrator was busy attending another meeting :). I am cancelling my wellness plan with them and transferring my dog to another hospital."
