"Apparently this company has a common practice of refusing to send claims to insurance providers and then wrongfully sending patients to collections. Whoever took down my insurance information made tons of bizarre errors, including the wrong company name, so the bill never made it to my insurance company. I called and messaged them multiple times to correct it and was rudely told that they had corrected the information already. Weeks later, I got a letter from them saying that the insurance claim was denied, which was not true as it had never been submitted to my insurance, and threatening to send me to collections. Online it shows my insurance information was never corrected. This company is completely negligent in their business practices."
"I took my child to the emergency room in April. There are records of what I was billed, what my insurance covered, and what I paid (remaining balance was $0). Mysteriously I got a bill from collections in late November from "Madison Emergency Physicians" for for $25.50, a balance I could happily have paid if anyone asked me for it. I tried sending some different emails to some different places that seemed to be associated with that name but no replies. I paid the debt collector but I'm very unhappy with the experience and with the idea that this would affect my credit even in the slightest."
"Took my son in to the emergency room at the beginning of summer 2023. Used my current insurance, which covers such visits. Heard nothing from them until yesterday, nearly November 2023. It was a collections agency pursuing me for $25 outstanding on that visit. I have never received a notice or hint of owing them anything until this collections notice. You would think that seeing that insurance has already paid them over $1000 dollars, they would realize that they could bill me directly for whatever this piddly $25 is for. Now I have to deal with a company that has no live person to speak to and a collections agency that will put my credit score in the toilet over $25 bucks. Shame on St. Mary's for using this horrible company. It's extremely disheartening. I have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and Wisconsin Department of Health Services. I urge anyone else who has similar experiences with them to do the same. Follow up 11/21/2023: Despite the comment on this review that MEP's billing department would reach out to me, I have not heard anything from them. I have called them directly, left messages, and emailed them. So far they have not responded in any way to me. The comments on these reviews may be auto-generated or something, because there seems to be no human behind it."
"I went to the emergency room at St Agnes on 7/27 for chest pain and was ultimately admitted for a heart attack and the next day had a stent put in. Every aspect of the billing for a 2 night stay and the surgery was handled perfectly by the hospital. With the exception of this organization. I received a notice about a 1600 dollar bill about 6 weeks after my stay. I called MEP and they told me it was on their end and to disregard the notice as they would submit it again and the time it took wound not count against me. Fast forward 6 more weeks and a couple days ago I received another letter that I owe 1600 still and if I don’t pay they will be forced to send me to collections. So I called immediately again and talked to someone who again told me it was on their end and it would be sent to the back office for them to work on. In their defense the 2 people I talked to were extremely friendly and nice. They can’t help where they work. This seems like a terrible way to treat people and what feels like a bullying letter to scare people into paying a bill they shouldn’t or this company will send you to collections and adversely affect your credit score. I would like this issue resolved as soon as possible or I will be contacting the BBB and filing a complaint because I want to protect my credit score of 800 against this bogus bill. It’s not my issue that this billing can’t be taken care of competently or honestly. It sounds incredibly familiar to many other complaints so I’m assuming this is just the terrible system that’s in place. I do appreciate the timely response that this matter will be looked into immediately. In all the itemized documents from my insurance I have never seen this charge and I also have never received anything from insurance that states this charge would not be covered which can only lead me to believe it has never been submitted at all"
"I took my child to the ER as instructed be her primary. Upon arriving, I handed our insurance card to the admissions person. They had the insurance card for several minutes while supposedly entering our information. A month later, I received a bill for approximately $1600. I called St Mary’s billing and they told me there was no balance due and we were fine. I never received any other correspondence after that phone call. Fast forward over a year later. I get a notification that my credit score dropped 100 points. I see that this bill is in collections and now, on my credit report. After a few phone calls, I find out the bill is from Madison Emergency Physicians. I call them. A woman assists me and states the bill was submitted to OUR OLD INSURANCE provider, that we had until 2018. Our ER visit was in 2022. The admissions person NEVER UPDATED our insurance provider info. The woman on the phone (MEP) took all my current insurance info that has been valid since 2018, told me she would call collections, have them put a hold on the account, send me a new statement in addition to contacting my current insurance provider to explain what had happened and to submit the bill through them. Guess what? It’s six weeks later and no one has done anything about this. This is my credit they are messing with and I’ve worked extremely hard to keep my credit on the up and up since covid arose and affected everyone financially. Now I get to call again, and I’m not going to be as kind as I was the first time around. You are messing with peoples credit scores as I see I’m not the first person to complain about having a bill sent to collections when the patient or guardian provided CORRECT INFORMATION. Get it together! How do you not send follow up bills stating the balance is past due or it’s being sent to collections? Shady as hell."
