Reviews of Aurora Academic Specialists in Obstetrics & Gynecology
"An AMAZING experience and successful planned vaginal BREECH birth: I can't say enough positive things about my recent experience at Aurora Sinai, for the birth of my baby, and my experience during my consult and ECV procedure. This was my 4th baby and was originally going to be a home birth (as my other 3 were born at home). When at 37 weeks I found out baby was breech, I reached out to Breech Without Borders who recommended Aurora Sinai, among a few others. Aurora Sinai was the first to get back to me and accommodate me, making a consult and ECV appointment for the same morning, taking into account I'd be traveling from Chicagoland. Dr. Marie Forgie and her student resident, along with Grace (the nurse) and the anesthesiologist, were so patient with me, answering all my questions, giving thorough informed consent, explaining all the potential risks and benefits of the ECV and a vaginal breech delivery vs. a cesarean breech delivery. As a birth doula, I had background knowledge on a lot of the information, and yet, they took their time to intelligently explain everything, answering my tough questions. It was their willingness to work with me and accommodate my requests, along with their enthusiasm for physiological breech birth, that ultimately led me to transfer my care from my home birth midwife to Dr. Forgie, even considering we'd have to travel for the birth. Dr. Forgie called personally to follow up the next week after the consult and when I called again to ask more questions pertaining to the birth, again, she listened and was willing to accommodate my requests about certain interventions. There was some anxiety about a hospital birth (as I was familiar with home birth and have had negative experiences as a doula attending others' hospital births), but my daughter's birth was truly amazing. Both Dr. Forgie and midwife, Eileen Nyholt, attended my labor (though Dr. Forgie ended up being called to surgery for the actual delivery). Both Dr. Forgie and Eileen, along with the nurse, Mindy, were so incredibly supportive. Not only did they make me feel safe, seen, and heard, but they empowered me to make my own decisions about my care, and the outcome was truly beautiful. It was like I had a home birth in a hospital -- something I didn't think was possible. While I believed a hospital birth could be beautiful, I thought there would be things I'd have to compromise. They trusted me and my body to birth my baby, without intervention. My daughter was born with no complications whatsoever. They worked as a team, with my husband, doula, and sister, to support me during a very intense labor (my most intense labor of my 4 births). And then they continued to support me postpartum. The pediatric doctors and postpartum nurse, Andrea, were also supportive and accommodating, empowering us to make decisions about the care of our daughter. Oftentimes, medical care is driven by the providers or the system, but at Aurora Sinai, I had autonomy and power to make my own decisions, with the support and help of the providers. I am truly amazed and grateful!"
