"I actually haven’t been to Dana Point in so long but it was nice to explore the caves. I was able to go to the caves. There is a section where you can go through instead of entering from the other side where it’s more difficult. I got my shoes wet because I slipped. Overall it was nice. Would definitely recommend this to anyone. Just be careful with the rocks."
"Super beautiful but pretty hard hike if you are carrying a baby. I have a 10 month old and thought it would be an easy walk over to the caves. I was very wrong as I struggled the entire way and nearly gave up but glad I didn’t. Still giving this a 5 star review as I throughly enjoyed seeing the tide pools and finding a lot of neat things along the way. The hike is about 1.2 miles but felt like an eternity due to wearing an extra 21pounds (my 10 month old). Be wary that the terrain can be slippery and very rocky. You’ll need good shoes. I used some slip on Skechers and highly regretted it. You’ll need shoes you won’t roll your ankles in. Be advised that you can only reach the cave during low tide so do some research prior to going. The trail starts to the right of the Ocean Institute. You take the stairs down to the beach and make a right along the rocks. You’ll eventually see the access to the cave entrance. It’s a slit in the rocks that leads to the larger cave."
"I had a blast trekking along this rocky beach to the caves. It took a bit longer than we expected and not all of the kids (we had eight kids from age 4 to 12) thought the cave was worth the hike. But overall, it was a memorable experience and fun activity for the family."
"We visited the Dana Point Caves at low tide. It’s a beautiful stretch of coastline. Plenty of parking nearby. We hiked around the point and found two sea caves. We were lucky to have perfect weather. Bring sturdy shoes as there are many big boulders and small stones. Also many broken shells. Take your time and enjoy the natural beauty."
"Fun hike to the cave. Most of the path is loose rock so be careful. It can be done in open toe shoes but it was much safer and faster with my trail shoes. Some of the senior citizens in my group decided to turn around because they were not comfortable with the loose rock but the kids made it just fine. Plan to stop for a few times to enjoy the view and the tide pools. The cave is located at the very end of the point. Take the stairs to the beach from the Ocean Institute and make your way along the cliff. The entrance to cave still had some water that we had to cross but it was only about a foot deep and we were able to climb around it. There was no one in the cave when we got there but it filled up quickly when they saw that we made it over the water at the entrance."
