Golden Shore Marine Biological Reserve

About the Golden Shore Marine Biological Reserve
Golden Shore Marine Biological Reserve is a picturesque park and tourist attraction located at 201 Golden Shore in Long Beach, California, United States. Spanning 9.1 acres, this reserve is a haven for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts, offering a sanctuary for birds and local aquatic life.
Situated south of Shoreline Drive, this area was originally part of Palm Beach Park before being transformed into a marine reserve. The shoreline was stabilized with rocks and a boat launching ramp and parking lot were created in the 1950s. However, silt build-up eventually closed the launch ramp in the 1990s. In 1997, efforts began to convert the area into intertidal and subtidal wetlands habitat as mitigation for the development of the Aquarium of the Pacific and Rainbow Harbor.
The Golden Shore Marine Biological Reserve serves as mitigation for the impact on the salt-water lagoon that was converted into Rainbow Harbor. Interpretative signage and viewing scopes were added in 2008 to enhance the visitor experience. Managed by Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine, this reserve offers a unique opportunity to explore and appreciate the beauty of nature in an urban setting.

Reviews of Golden Shore Marine Biological Reserve
"Little waterfront green space with a multi-use path. Great view and very pedestrian/bike friendly."
"Cute little grassy, quiet and shady park area in between Pierpoint Landing and Golden Shore RV Park. There's a couple of interpretive signs explaining why and for whom this marine reserve was created. You'll find this a much quieter area than the Pierpoint parking lot in the evenings. You might even find a geocache, an Ingress portal and a Pokemon gym here if you're playing any of those games."
"Seeing this little cove of tidelands makes me want shed tears for poor ‘Mother Nature’ and all her little creatures."
"Many options for anyone as a tourist, as a local strolling by just want to be out, or as a cyclist. There are plenty of activities to do for any level. On a cool or sunny day, you will feel the nature and the peace in your surrounding when you explore or get away from the traffic. I will never get bored coming here. I can walk and take more pictures just snapping them away. It is connected to the Light House Park and you can walk the Bridge to the Maya hotel. Or you can walk over and stop by The Catalina Landing. all day activities."
"This protected natural zone is a great spot for bird-watching. You might see: egrets, herons, cormorants, ducks, pelicans and a variety of shorebirds."
