"I really love this place. We are trying to so work done over here so that the public will feel safer and want to start revisiting us here at Peralta Park. Hopefully soon to come will be the "Doggieee PlayGround". Brought to you by the residents of the Peralta Park Encampment. This will be located at the entrance of Peralta Park Playground on the 10th street entrance. And please "Public, Understand that we as a community are trying to get this area cleaned up but it doesn't help when people come and dump stuff for us to clean up or when you make comments about the way it looks, or the we are nasty filthy pigs. This is not what we are.!!! Like myself I have inoperable cancer and trying to keep this place up with no help from the public when they give us their mess to take care of. So please be more understanding when you visit our home and remember this do onto others as you would want them to do to you. Think about this, I have been on the streets for 3 years and I'm positive cancer and been given a expiration date and they know this! SO WHY AM I STILL UNHOUSED???. On the packages of chips they give us, They have a sticker on back that says. "*****WILL CAUSE CANCER NOT MENT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION******" WHY WOULD THEY FEED US THIS IF IT WAS SO DANGEROUS??? POPULATION CONTROL??? WHAT DO YOU THINK???? STOP BY SOME TIME AND CHAT WITH US AND ASK US WHAT WE WANT DONE OR WHAT WE WANT TO DO. ME, IM TRYING TO GET MY "HOMELESS HEARTARTIST PROJECT" UP AND RUNNING. I COULD USE A LITTLE HELP. SO BY AND ASK ME ABOUT IT SOMETIME. WE COULD REALLY USE SOME FOOD, WATER AND CLOTHING DONATIONS AND IF YOU FEEL GENEROUS SOME CANDY BARS WE LOVE SWEETS AND ESPECIALLY CHOCOLATE. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE. SINCERELY, HEATHER"
"A bit rundown"
"This should be a great extension of the parks around Lake Merritt, but a large homeless encampment under the bridge cuts it off. Great location, potentially great layout, but man have they really dropped the ball on safety and maintenance."
"The really need to fix this place up. It can be a really cool park to hang out at, but it’s just a bunch of homeless people and trash everywhere"
"This could really be a great park. It is wheelchair accessible. There is a small playground. There is a water channel where you can watch birds. There are garbage cans. There are paved trails. There are benches. Oh, but there is more... The benches and walls jave graffitti. There is a large homeless camp built in the park at taxpayer expense. Homeless are sleeping in garden sheds which do not meet code. The place feels unsafe to walk, with overgrown foliage creating hiding places for potential attackers. Despite the several garden sheds, there are still several people camping in tents or under the bridges."
