"Jackson Hewitt? More like Jackson BLEW IT! My normal tax accountant was unavailable due to a family situation, so I went here because it was conveniently in walking distance. Paid $500+ for self-employed tax prep. By their math, I owed the Fed + state nearly $7K total. Something seemed off, it’s usually not like this, but I paid because the deadline was close. Went home and reviewed against prior years’ returns (done by proper accountant). Jackson Hewitt was off by nearly NINE THOUSAND DOLLARS. I was actually due REFUNDS for Fed + state. They completely IGNORED over 20K in retirement contributions, missed a 4K+ deduction on self-employed medical insurance…also they refused — actually arguing with me — refused to report taxable credit card rebates. Unscrupulous. When I went back, the preparer was not there, and person I spoke with was incredulous. Wrote a polite letter requesting a refund of fees, which went unanswered. Eventually got my preparation fees back through a months-long credit card dispute, filed an amended return with my regular accountant’s help, and finally got refunded my unnecessary tax payments plus refunds due. Shady amateur clown operation. Save yourself $8879.28 and go anywhere else."
