"This location is inside a Wal-Mart, this should have been my first warning. You are basically paying Jackson Hewitt to enter info from your tax docs into their computer and give you an early refund. If your tax needs are anything beyond vanilla W-2s and 1099s, go elsewhere. I usually do my own taxes, but had stock option exercises in '18 and I wanted peace of mind. The CPA (I assume) on duty here did not know how to handle wage income from option exercises that was double-counted on the 1099-B from my broker. She had to call her boss and ask how to deal with this (you have to adjust the cost basis on a Schedule D to your 1040). Seeing that I knew more than the "CPA" about taxes, and after catching her looking up tax terms on Google Translate, I stood up and grabbed my papers off her desk and left... when she asked why, I responded because I am here for peace of mind and I need someone competent doing my taxes, otherwise I might as well do it myself. As I said, this service basically fronts you your tax return for a (significant) fee -- if you need actual tax help, look elsewhere."
