"I took my taxes to H and R Block for the first time after my husband died as I wanted to make sure all the complicated issues were done correctly. The man who did my taxes did not do them correctly causing me to be audited. The IRS wanted 105000 and was not allowing any home equity interest despite language in the code that says the only exception is a substantial home improvement project. I returned to H and R Block and was assigned a woman who told me she thought I’d have to pay, until I shared language from theater code. She gave me no confidence at all and seem to know nothing about the specific issue I had. I challenged the amount because the tax code did allow up to a certain amount of interest to be deducted. I felt no support whatsoever from the woman at H and R Block. She did not follow through, return calls and in fact the lack of responsiveness from H and R Block caused me great worry and anxiety. I have called customer service several times and was assured Matthew Penney , regional manager would contact me. I was given his email address and I have emailed him twice with no response. The IRS just sent a letter to the H and R block representative as I signed permission for her to speak on my behalf. I emailed her asking her to go over it with me. It has been 9 days and nothing. I have been advised to contact the Ca State office of consumer affairs and file a complaint. . Do not use this business. They are people trained to use software, not tax experts. I learned a very hard lesson and want to prevent anyone else from experiencing poor business practices, horrible customer service -and total disregard for the consumer."
