Reviews of Malibu Creek State Park
"Incredibly scenic mountain/canyons and waterways where wildlife abounds. It has been called the “Yosemite of Los Angeles” for good reasons. Many of the “hiking” trails are actually level roads easily walkable for persons of any ability. Hollywood film and television companies have used this park for countless productions (e.g., “Rifleman, “M*A*S*H” and Planet of the Apes”. )"
"Amazing place to see with streams and various elevations. The trail starts out wide and groomed. Then you have to cross the small river on logs, so bring water proof shoes in case you slip and bring water, it gets hot. The Mash site is small, but there are signs and some cool old trucks and a picnic area... Really scenic all along the path. We did the whole thing to the backside of Malibu lake dam and a couple of stops, photos, lunch, in about 6 hours. But it can be done in about 2.5 hours if you walk briskly and don't stop a lot. Worth the journey."
"11 km hike round trip. 7 miles in US currency. Mainly flat, but a big hill in the middle, and crosses a creek or too. M*A*S*H* and Planet of the Apes outdoor sets somewhere along the way."
"This was an enjoyable hike, I came here to celebrate my sister and grandmother's birthday. We all didn't know much about it other than we wanted to explore the area more. The hike was on the easier side, I was always a fan of Planet of the Apes original movies and M.A.S.H. so when we read that there were some areas we could see where they filmed parts of it was a neat addition to the hike. On the way back from the M.A.S.H. site we did try and go see the damn, on the sign it does not say there is no outlet, so we thought we were taking a short cut but when we got there we realized there was no way to pass through. So if you want to see the damn see it on the way down then go back up, vs on the way back."
"First time today with friends in this park and I love it ! Easy to get there, plenty of parking $6 for 2 hours. We walked for about 1 hour to get to the rock pool, (Thanks to the Ranger Mr. Lee to help us to get there) breathtaking views! I was lucky to see a bob cat in our hiking trail. Bathrooms are clean. I definitely will be back. Please don't go with your dog is not allowed and is very hot in summer for your furry friend. Get early in the morning to enjoy your hiking"
