Reviews of McMillan's Speed & Fab
"Best place to go if you want POWER!"
"Great shop with some very talented and creative fabricators"
"Horrible place to take expensive cars to. He does not back up his work."
"DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS PLACE! They ruined my engine, blatantly lied to me, refuse to pay for damages and now I know why so many local mechanics warned me about this place! I brought my restored '69 VW Karmann Ghia in to have new gauges installed, have the rear exhaust redirected out the back and have some struts installed on the rear deck lid. I provided the gauges and trusted the price would be reasonable. I never received an estimate and was quite surprised when the bill came to $3,200 and when I went to drive away, the power seat was disconnected (poor electrical work) so I had to come back 2 days later to pick it up. When I came to pick-up the car I drove it home in modest traffic and never got the rpm's up. A week later, on a cold morning, I took it for a drive and within a half mile I noticed the oil pressure gauge was dead. Much like the disconnected power seat, it seemed like more poor workmanship and another disconnected wire or loose connection, so I turned around. As I pulled up to my home, the engine started making a lot of noise and quit running. Turns out it wasn't another electrical problem but instead the oil had actually been ejected from the engine when the oil pressure got high enough to blow-out the gasket because the oil filter wasn't tightened down properly. Kevin immediately told me that his crew hadn't removed the oil filter assembly (or oil filter) and that they had simply 'flipped the adapter around' when installing the oil temperature sensor on the oil filter assembly....but when the mechanic who built the engine inspected the engine, he found the oil filter loose and noted that the adapter wasn't flipped around but instead a Tee had been installed. To remove the adapter and install a Tee, the oil filter assembly would have had to have been removed and put in a vise. We checked Kevin's invoice and on page 3 we found in his own description that they had removed the oil filter assembly and oil filter and then later reinstalled the oil filter assembly and oil filter: Kevin had blatantly lied to me! Could it be a stuck oil pressure relief valve? No, the valve fell right out when the engine was disassembled and in speaking to other VW engine builders they say the valve never fails and can only get seized when the engine is very over-heated and then the valve won't come out. Had the oil filter been loose before it went to Kevin's shop? No, the engine had several hundred miles on it and saw plenty of high rpm run's. Had the oil filter been tightened properly, a super-high oil pressure would bulge the oil filter but in this case the oil filter, which was removed/replaced by Kevin's shop, was evidently not tightened and at a certain point the oil pressure was high enough to blew-out the gasket. It's really quit clear & obvious. Given the dishonesty, I insisted that the engine builder make the repairs but advised Kevin where the shop was and gave him full access for inspection. Kevin tried to tell me that he wasn't responsible for 'custom modifications' but this is clearly negligent workmanship. Kevin refuses to offer anything towards repairs and has not replied to any emails. Seems like a great guy and an impressive shop but his actions speak vastly otherwise, I would NEVER take any of my vehicles to him. I own a business with over 227 5-star reviews and I know how to be responsible for my crews and workmanship.....this man is clearly trying to snake and lie his way out of it, there are so many inconsistencies in his story that I'm not even getting into all the others, this is proof enough. Stay away from this shop. If you're lucky the young kids working for him might do good work.....but if they don't, you can bet Kevin won't stand behind the work and he'll quickly lie his way out of anything and everything! I do not enjoy reporting these things but consumers need to know what and who they are dealing with."
"I took my 65 Vett to McMillan's to swap out my 383 motor & trans for a brand new LS3 525HP with TKO 5 Speed, all I can say is that I am so glad that I found this shop! Kevin the owner has so much knowledge and he is all about details they replaced everything from the fuel tank to the radiator and everything in between and the outcome is AMAZING!!! by the way Lisa that works at the office emails you photos every week of the progress of your car. I highly recommend this shop for all classic car."
