About Us
Monterey State Beach, located in Monterey, California, United States, is a natural feature that offers a variety of recreational activities for visitors. The beach is a favorite spot for surfers, tidepool watchers, and fishermen. It is also popular among scuba divers, kayakers, kite-flyers, and volleyball players. The flat beach is perfect for walking or jogging.
The beach is divided into three separate areas, approximately a mile apart, shared by the cities of Monterey and Seaside. The underwater area of the park is part of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Leashed dogs are allowed on the beach from the Roberts parking lot south, but not from the Seaside parking lot north.
As of September 16, 2014, beach fires are banned on state beaches within the Monterey District to minimize fire dangers. This includes Monterey State Beach. Visitors are advised to use raised and self-contained gas camp stoves for cooking purposes. The ban on beach fires is necessary to protect public safety and California's natural resources.

"Decent beach. Good for families with little kids as there is a stream running alongside that is shallow and fun for kids to play in. Waves break pretty hard in places with not as gradual a slope to play in the water. Plenty of beach for crowds. No restroom facilities. Limited parking (around 50 stalls).
