Reviews of Big River Beach at Mendocino Headlands State Park
"Serene place which is best when it's slightly foggy but not fully."
"This is a cool beach to check out! There are large cliffs that stand behind the beachfront as you go north. The river meets the beach in the south end. There is a good amount of sand space to stretch your legs. There is great scenery of the ocean, and you can see some cool wildlife like crabs and birds. Near the north end there is a small cave which is fun for taking pictures at."
"This is a river we’ve kayaked and depending on your stamina and the current, I’d suggest. We also just biked it. The trail is easy-moderate depending on how long you go. We went 8 miles out and then back. Most of the trail is kid friendly (I’d suggest a confident rider, age 6+). There are a few narrow parts that ride along the edge."
"More than a mile long and 100 yards deep with river and coastal frontage, the sand was fine, almost white, and quite clean despite the 100+ visitors present on a Friday afternoon at 3:30. The overhead bridge was inaudible, despite all the traffic. Only portable toilets were apparent. Many seagulls gathered around those with food. Families and couples of all ages and strata were present."
"This is a really nice beach to come chill at. When the tide is low you can walk from one end to the other. It's very refreshing here. We see a lot of families visit here too so it seems pretty safe. Sometimes there are people kayaking nearby as well, looks like fun!"
