About Us

Community Woodshop

Community Woodshop is a woodworking institution located at 3617 San Fernando Road, Glendale, California, United States. Our goal is to help individuals advance their woodworking skills in a safe and supportive environment. Whether you are a beginner or looking to refine your techniques, our classes and workshops cater to all skill levels.

Our experienced furniture maker, Robert, will guide you through the process of designing and building beautiful projects such as console tables. By taking our classes, you will learn how to work with wood effectively and safely, while also gaining valuable hands-on experience.

Membership is not required to attend our classes, and we offer a variety of workshops for individuals to choose from. From basic woodworking classes to more advanced techniques, we have something for everyone. We recommend starting with basic classes to build a strong foundation before moving on to more complex projects.

To ensure a personalized learning experience, we limit our class sizes to six students. This allows for individualized attention and plenty of opportunities to practice new skills. Additionally, we offer safety orientations for most classes to ensure that all participants are aware of proper safety protocols.

If you are interested in attending a class or workshop, please check our up-to-date list of offerings and sign up for your desired session. If a class is full, you can add your name to the waitlist for future openings. For more information on class schedules, pricing, and age requirements, please visit our website or contact us at [email protected].

Join us at Community Woodshop and take your woodworking skills to the next level. Learn, create, and unleash your creativity in our welcoming and inspiring environment.

"This is a great place to learn woodworking. I’ve taken several classes and used the shop for some personal projects. I hardly know what I’m doing half the time but I can always ask a question of the shop owners and get the opinion of a professional. And sometimes if they see me doing something that could be done better/differently, they will approach me and tell me. Everything you need is here and it is truly a great resource in the community."

"When I turned 38 I realized I don't have a passion and decided to learn woodworking. So far I did 4 different classes with their team - and none of them dissapoint. Teachers are kind, patient, amazing, they make sure you understand all of the tools and processes, all in super safe enviroment. I tried many different woodshops in the past and Community Woodshop is the best out of all of them. Also, super safe space for Queer people. Love, love, love."

"Had a great experience at the shop! My schedule is hectic and unfortunately can’t make the classes, but I did do a private lesson with Bob. In one afternoon, we created two cutting boards. Bob was very detailed with breaking down the process and using the machines. Honestly didn’t expect to make two cutting boards but Bob was proficient with time. I got really comfortable using the machines especially the table saw. I learned how to use the planer, jointer, miter saw, table saw, drill press, router, disk sander, and random orbital sander. Really recommend folks that are interested in woodworking with little to no experience to take the Safety Orientation and the Cutting Board class or private lessons. Looking forward to my next project at the shop!"

"It's a great place to make furniture and other wood objects, and to learn about basic and advanced woodworking, but what makes it truly unique is that it truly has a feeling of 'community.' As a veteran of numerous maker spaces, I can say this is not something that is easy to acheive. The quality and variety of tools available is excellent, and I love the fact that I don't have to do any of the maintenance / sharpening / adjusting. Members are extremely polite about sharing tools, and the staff is extremely helpful. I used to have a woodshop in my studio, but I much prefer this environment. I find my productivity and workflow is improved by the fact that they have pretty much every tool, so all I need to bring is an idea and some wood. Whether you are an expert, or an absolute beginner, I strongly recommend you drop by for a visit."
