"I has been about 5 years since I was forced to see a shrink simply because my former PCP died and no new doctor would prescribe Valium, which I had been on for DECADES. He took my insurance co. for thousands for "TMS", which did absolutely nothing..36 trips at 2 hours each way.He basically forced me (I was going through Valium withdrawal; basically the same as gabapentin) to be on gabapentin, which is causing severe cognitive issues for meas well as less severe side effects. ( I know it is the gabapentin because I did try to stop and it was like a fog lifting.) However, neither he nor the awful primary bothered to tell me that you should never be on this poison for YEARS. I have never had a problem with oipoids.. You just taper off. I have been trying to stop this horrible drug for 4 MONTHS and I am making very little progress. If you do due diligence, you will find that, like benzos, the lower the dose, the worse the symptoms. He also has a great trick. I had to go back (an hour each way..) every month to get 30 Valium tablets. He would be pleasant for a while, then say something nasty, irrelevant and meant to be provocative. "In the meantime, maybe you can work on that temper" and then close the door.. HEY, DR. SHAKIR.. MAYBE YOU CAN WORK ON THAT ENORMOUS GUT!! I was so close to saying that. If you decide to go to his office in Soquel, be prepared to entire a shrine devoted to the God Shakir. His very nice staffwas not the same when he was there. Even they did not like him. There was also a constant turnover of doctors there. A long as I am going through this withdrawal hell, I will curse him. Go elsewhere."
